Women’s Basketball Update #12

(15-10 Overall, 7-7 in the Little East Conference)

Providence, RI--Head Coach Spencer Manning’s team is 15-10 overall and 7-7 in the Little East Conference. The Anchorwomen finished last week with a 1-1 record in two LEC road games. The victory was versus Western Connecticut, 69-56, on Feb. 17, and then the Anchorwomen were defeated by Keene State, 68-63, on Feb. 21. Despite the split last week, RIC has earned the third seed in the LEC Tournament and will host sixth-seeded Western Connecticut on Tuesday, Feb. 23 at 7 p.m. in quarterfinal action. The third-place conference finish is RIC's highest regular season finish since the 1997-98 season and the Anchorwomen have not hosted an LEC Tournament game since the 1998-99 campaign.

 

Freshman forward Kari Geisler (Derry, NH) has played in 20 games, starting 12 of them. She leads the team in scoring and rebounding, averaging 12.9 points and 9.5 rebounds per game. She recorded her ninth double-double of the season with ten points and a game-high 17 rebounds versus Keene State.

 

Junior forward Heather Pettigrew (Cranston, RI) has played in 25 games, starting ten of them. She is averaging 9.2 points, 6.9 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 2.0 steals per game, which is good for second on the team. In the two games last week, she averaged 19.0 points and 8.0 rebounds per contest.

 

Freshman forward Brittany Rosen (Derry, NH) has played in 25 games, starting 24 of them. She is averaging 7.0 points, 6.5 rebounds and 1.8 steals per game. Rosen tallied nine points and grabbed eight rebounds versus Keene State.

 

Freshman guard Lisa Ranzoni (Lee, MA) has played in 25 games. She is averaging 9.0 points per game while also contributing 2.6 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game. Ranzoni scored a career-high 20 points in the victory over Western Connecticut.

 

Senior forward Liz Shields (Warwick, RI) has played in 25 games, starting all of them, this season. She is averaging 7.7 points, 3.8 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game. Shields leads the team with 52 steals, an average of 2.1 per game.

 

Freshman forward Caitlin Ryan (Chepachet, RI) has played in 17 games, starting seven of them, since joining the team second semester. She is averaging 8.2 points, 4.1 rebounds and a team-high 1.4 blocks per game. Ryan grabbed a career-high ten rebounds versus Keene State.

 

Senior guard Abby Ferri (Coventry, RI) has played in 24 games, starting all of them. She is averaging 5.5 points, 3.5 rebounds and a team-high 2.3 assists per game.

 

Sophomore guard Kristy Nix (East Setauket, NY) has played in 23 games, starting 14 of them. She is averaging 5.6 points and 2.6 rebounds per game.

 

Sophomore forward Liz Barrette (North Providence, RI) has played in 18 games. She is averaging 2.1 points and 1.4 rebounds per game.

 

Senior guard Rachel Pecoraro (Smithfield, RI) has played in 18 games, starting two of them. She is averaging 1.4 points and 0.8 rebounds per game.

 

Freshman guard Jan Garvin (Johnston, RI) has played in ten games. She is averaging 0.9 points and 0.5 rebounds per game.

 

Freshman guard Tara Marchant (North Scituate, RI) has played in nine games. She is averaging 1.8 points and 0.6 rebounds per game.

 

Junior guard Alyson St. Amand (West Warwick, RI) has played in 22 games. She is averaging 1.5 points and 0.9 rebounds per game.
