Rhode Island College Men’s Soccer Update #2

(1-2 Overall; 0-0 in the Little East Conference)

Providence, RI--Head Coach John Mello’s team is 1-2 overall and has yet to play a game in the Little East Conference. In action last week, the Anchormen won their home-opener against Rivier College by the score of 6-1 on Wednesday, Sept. 8. The Anchormen dropped their second home game of the week to M.I.T. by the score of 4-1 on Saturday, Sept. 11.

 

Junior forward Kyle Teixeira (Warren, RI) has played in three games, starting all of them. He has four goals for eight points on the season. He notched the hat trick, scoring three times within the first ten minutes in the in over Rivier. Teixeira’s four goals give him 46 goals and 97 points for his career. Teixeira is now 16 goals and 44 points shy of RIC all-time career goals and points leader Domenico Petrarca (‘73-‘76).

 

Sophomore forward Holman Giraldo (Pawtucket, RI) has played in three games, starting all of them. He has one goal and one assist for a total of three points on the season.

 

Junior midfielder Joe Mackinnon (Exeter, RI) has played in two games, starting one of them. He has one goal for two points. Mackinnon’s goal was the Anchormen’s only offensive output of the day in the loss to M.I.T.

 

Junior midfielder Chris Cunha (East Providence, RI) has played in one game. He has one goal for two points on the season, scoring in the win over Rivier.

 

Sophomore midfielder Brian Purcell (Barrington, RI) has played in three games, starting all of them. He has two assists for two points, with both helpers coming in the win over Rivier.

 

Freshman defenseman James Nigrelli (Ashaway, RI) has played in two games. He has one assist for one point, which came in the win over Rivier.

 

Freshman goalkeeper Sean Gonsalves (Somerset, MA) has played in two games, starting both of them. He has a record of 0-2 with seven saves and has logged a .538 save percentage and a 3.00 goals against average.

 

Freshman defenseman Kevin Patterson (Narragansett, RI) has played in one game. He has one goal for two points, scoring his first collegiate goal in the win over Rivier.

 

Freshman goalkeeper Jadon Neves (Warren, RI) has played and started in one game. He has a record of 1-0 and has logged a 1.00 goals against average.

 

Senior defender Mike Maciel (East Providence, RI) has played in three games, starting all of them. He has one shot.

 

Junior defender Tim Leonard (Scituate, RI) has played in two games, starting one of them.

 

Junior midfielder Dan Toro (Pawtucket, RI) has played in three games, starting all of them. 

 

Sophomore midfielder Nic Rossi (North Kingstown, RI) has played in two games, starting both of them. He has three shots.

 

Sophomore defender and captain Scott Westcott (Scituate, RI) has played in three games, starting two of them. He has one shot.

 

Freshman defenseman Kyle Remy (Bristol, RI) has played in three games, starting one of them.

 

Junior defenseman Matt Borges (New Bedford, MA) has played in three games, starting two of them.

 

Sophomore forward Chris Childs (Cranston, RI) has played in two games.

 

Sophomore defenseman Alain Edouard (Providence, RI) has played in three games, starting two of them.

 

Sophomore midfielder Boima Konuwa (Pawtucket, RI) has played in one game. He has one shot.

 

Freshman midfielder Steve Alves (Seekonk, MA) has played in three games, starting one of them.

 

Freshman midfielder Jeff Melo (North Providence, RI) has played in three games. He has two shots.

 

Freshman defenseman Matthew Souto (East Providence, RI) has played in three games, starting all of them.

 

Freshman midfielder Peter Keoghan (Warwick, RI) has played in one game. He has four shots.

 

In upcoming action, RIC will host Johnson & Wales University on Tuesday, Sept. 14 at 4 p.m. The Anchormen will play at Connecticut College on Thursday, Sept. 16 at 4 p.m., and will then open up Little East Conference play at home against Eastern Connecticut State University on Saturday, Sept. 18 at 1 p.m.
