TEIXEIRA’S GOALS LIFT RIC TO VICTORY

Providence, RI—Rhode Island College junior Kyle Teixeira (Warren, RI) scored two goals, including the game-winner, in the Anchormen’s, 3-2, win over Johnson and Wales University. RIC evens its record at 2-2, while the loss drops the Wildcats to 1-4 on the season.

Teixeira’s second goal on the afternoon snapped a 2-2 deadlock with 12 minutes left in regulation. He was fouled by JWU sophomore goalkeeper Brenton Blanchard (Saline, MI) in the box and was awarded a penalty kick, which he promptly buried in the lower left corner to give the Anchormen the lead for good.

RIC freshman Matt Souto (East Providence, RI) scored his first collegiate goal, which tied the game 2-2 in the 76th minute. Sophomore Holman Giraldo (Pawtucket, RI) had two assists and freshman goalkeeper Jadon Neves (Warren, RI) made three saves in the victory.

The Wildcats jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first half on goals by freshmen Brian Sousa (Raynham, MA) and Alin Oroszi (Ypsilanti, MI) in the 10th and 17th minute, respectively, before RIC came back with three unanswered tallies. Blanchard made four saves in a losing effort.

In upcoming action, the Anchormen will play at Connecticut College on Thursday, Sept. 16 and return home to face Eastern Connecticut on Saturday, Sept. 18.
