Rhode Island College Men’s Soccer Update #3

(3-3 Overall; 1-0 in the Little East Conference)

Providence, RI--Head Coach John Mello’s team is 3-3 overall and 1-0 in the Little East Conference. In action last week, the Anchormen defeated Johnson and Wales, 3-2, on Tuesday, Sept. 14. RIC lost on the road to Connecticut College, 3-2, on Thursday, Sept. 16. The Anchormen then opened up LEC play and defeated Eastern Connecticut, 5-1, at home on Sunday, Sept. 19.

 

Junior forward Kyle Teixeira (Warren, RI) has played in six games, starting all of them. He has nine goals and one assist for 19 points on the season. He notched his second hat trick of the season, scoring three times in the win over Eastern Connecticut. Teixeira’s nine goals give him 51 goals and 108 points for his career. Teixeira is now 11 goals and 33 points shy of RIC all-time career goals and points leader Domenico Petrarca (‘73-‘76).

 

Teixeira found the back of the net often last week as he tallied five goals and added one assist in a 2-1 week for the Anchormen. He collected his second hat trick of the year, scoring three goals in a, 5-1, conference victory over Eastern Connecticut. Teixeira scored two goals, including the game-winner, in a, 3-2, comeback victory over Johnson & Wales.

 

Sophomore forward Holman Giraldo (Pawtucket, RI) has played in six games, starting all of them. He has one goal and three assists for a total of five points on the season.

 

Freshman midfielder Steve Alves (Seekonk, MA) has played in six games, starting three of them. He has two goals for four points on the season. He scored in the loss against Connecticut College and in the win over Eastern Connecticut.

 

Junior midfielder Joe Mackinnon (Exeter, RI) has played in two games, starting one of them. He has one goal for two points.

 

Junior midfielder Chris Cunha (East Providence, RI) has played in four games. He has one goal for two points on the season.

 

Freshman defenseman James Nigrelli (Ashaway, RI) has played in five games. He has two assists for two points on the season. He set up Teixeira’s third goal of the day in the win over Eastern Connecticut.

 

Freshman goalkeeper Sean Gonsalves (Somerset, MA) has played in four games, starting in three of them. He has a record of 1-2 with 13 saves and has logged a .650 save percentage and a 2.00 goals against average.

 

Sophomore midfielder Nic Rossi (North Kingstown, RI) has played in five games, starting all of them of them. He has one assist for one point on the season.

 

Freshman defenseman Kevin Patterson (Narragansett, RI) has played in one game. He has one goal for two points, scoring his first collegiate goal in the win over Rivier. He is expected to miss the remainder of the season due to an illness.

 

Sophomore forward Chris Childs (Cranston, RI) has played in five games. He has one goal for two points on the season. Childs scored the last goal in the win over Eastern Connecticut.

 

Freshman defenseman Matthew Souto (East Providence, RI) has played in five games, starting all of them. He has one goal for two points.

 

Freshman midfielder Jeff Melo (North Providence, RI) has played in six games, starting one of them. He has one goal for two points. He scored his first collegiate goal in the loss to Connecticut College.

 

Freshman goalkeeper Jadon Neves (Warren, RI) has played in three games, starting in two of them. He has a record of 2-1 with seven saves and has logged a .538 save percentage and a 2.40 goals against average.

 

Senior defender Mike Maciel (East Providence, RI) has played in six games, starting all of them. He has one shot.

 

Junior defender Tim Leonard (Scituate, RI) has played in five games, starting four of them.

 

Junior midfielder Dan Toro (Pawtucket, RI) has played in six games, starting all of them. He has one shot. 

 

Sophomore defender and captain Scott Westcott (Scituate, RI) has played in six games, starting four of them. He has one shot.

 

Freshman defenseman Kyle Remy (Bristol, RI) has played in six games, starting one of them.
