ANCHORMEN AND HUSKIES TIE IN LEC TILT

Providence, RIóRhode Island College and the University of Southern Maine battled to a, 2-2, tie in collegiate menís soccer action. RIC is now 4-3-1 overall and 1-0-1 in the Little East Conference, while the Huskies stay unbeaten with a 5-0-2 overall record and are 0-0-1 in the LEC.

 

The Anchormen drew first blood when sophomore Holman Giraldo (Pawtucket, RI) scored 3:02 into the first half on a free kick. USM evened the game up, 1-1, in the 14th minute when sophomore Adam Bial (Wenham, MA) headed in a corner kick from senior Zach Rossignol (Portland, ME).

 

RIC junior Kyle Teixeira (Warren, RI) gave the Anchormen a, 2-1, lead just before the half ended, scoring in the 38th minute. USM tied the contest when Bial scored again on a pass once again from Rossignol.

 

The two teams played two scoreless overtime periods to end the game in a tie. RIC freshman goalkeeper Sean Gonsalves (Somerset, MA) made one save, while his counterpart, USM sophomore Chris Willard (Hampton, CT), made seven stops.

 

In upcoming action, the Anchormen will host Tufts on Tuesday, Sept. 28 at 4 p.m. The Huskies will host Colby on Wednesday, Sept. 29 at 4 p.m.
