Rhode Island College Men’s Soccer Update #4

(4-3-1 Overall; 1-0-1 in the Little East Conference)

Providence, RI--Head Coach John Mello’s team is 4-3-1 overall and 1-0-1 in the Little East Conference. In action last week, the Anchormen defeated Salem State on the road, 4-0, on Wednesday, Sept. 22. RIC tied LEC opponent Southern Maine at home, 2-2, on Saturday, Sept. 25.

 

Junior forward Kyle Teixeira (Warren, RI) has played in eight games, starting all of them. He has 11 goals and three assists for 25 points on the season. Teixeira’s 11 goals and three assists give him 53 goals and 114 points for his career. Teixeira is now nine goals and 27 points shy of RIC all-time career goals and points leader Domenico Petrarca (‘73-‘76).

 

Teixeira has now notched at least one point in each of the last five games. In the win over Salem State, he had one goal and two assists. Teixeira notched the Anchormen’s second goal, and had a game high nine shots, vs. Southern Maine.

 

Freshman goalkeeper Jadon Neves (Warren, RI) has played in four games, starting in three of them. He has a record of 3-1 with ten saves and has logged a .625 save percentage and a 1.71 goals against average. Neves backstopped the Anchormen to the, 4-0, win over Salem State, notching his first collegiate shutout in the victory.

 

Sophomore forward Holman Giraldo (Pawtucket, RI) has played in eight games, starting all of them. He has two goals and three assists for a total of seven points on the season. He scored the opening goal in the 2-2 tie against Southern Maine.

 

Junior midfielder Chris Cunha (East Providence, RI) has played in six games. He has two goals for four points on the season. He scored the final goal in the win over Salem State.

 

Freshman defenseman James Nigrelli (Ashaway, RI) has played in seven games. He has one goal and two assists for four points on the season. He scored his first collegiate goal in the, 4-0, win over Salem State.

 

Sophomore forward Chris Childs (Cranston, RI) has played in seven games. He has one goal and two assists for four points on the season. Childs had an assist vs. Salem State and in the tie vs. Southern Maine.

 

Freshman midfielder Steve Alves (Seekonk, MA) has played in seven games, starting three of them. He has two goals for four points on the season.

 

Sophomore midfielder Nic Rossi (North Kingstown, RI) has played in seven games, starting all of them of them. He has one goal and one assist for three points on the season. His first goal of the season was the game-winner over Salem State.

 

Junior midfielder Joe Mackinnon (Exeter, RI) has played in two games, starting one of them. He has one goal for two points.

 

Freshman goalkeeper Sean Gonsalves (Somerset, MA) has played in five games, starting all of them. He has a record of 1-2-1 with 14 saves and has logged a .609 save percentage and a 1.91 goals against average.

 

Freshman defenseman Matthew Souto (East Providence, RI) has played in seven games, starting all of them. He has one goal for two points.

 

Freshman midfielder Jeff Melo (North Providence, RI) has played in eight games, starting two of them. He has one goal for two points.

 

Junior defenseman Matt Borges (New Bedford, MA) has played in eight games, starting seven of them. He has one assist for one point.

 

Senior defender Mike Maciel (East Providence, RI) has played in eight games, starting all of them. He has one shot.

 

Junior defender Tim Leonard (Scituate, RI) has played in seven games, starting six of them.

 

Junior midfielder Dan Toro (Pawtucket, RI) has played in eight games, starting all of them. He has five shots. 

 

Sophomore defender and captain Scott Westcott (Scituate, RI) has played in seven games, starting four of them. He has one shot.

 

Freshman defenseman Kyle Remy (Bristol, RI) has played in eight games, starting three of them.

 

Sophomore defenseman Alain Edouard (Providence, RI) has played in eight games, starting four of them. He has one shot.

 

Sophomore midfielder Boima Konuwa (Pawtucket, RI) has played in two games. He has one shot.

 

Freshman midfielder Peter Keoghan (Warwick, RI) has played in two games. He has four shots.

 

Freshman defenseman Kevin Patterson (Narragansett, RI) has played in one game. He has one goal for two points, scoring his first collegiate goal in the win over Rivier. He is expected to miss the remainder of the season due to an illness.

 

In upcoming action, RIC will host Tufts on Tuesday, Sept. 28 at 4 p.m. The Anchormen will then travel to Roger Williams on Thursday, Sept. 30 at 4 p.m., and then to UMass-Boston on Saturday, Oct. 2 at 1 p.m.
