Rhode Island College Women’s Soccer Update #4

(4-4 Overall; 0-2 in the Little East Conference)

Providence, RI--Head Coach Ryan Angel’s team is 4-4 overall and 0-2 in the Little East Conference. In action last week, the Anchorwomen won at home against Westfield State, 2-1, on Wednesday, Sept. 22. The Anchorwomen then went on the road and split two games in the state of Maine. RIC dropped their second conference game of the season against Southern Maine by a score of, 2-1 in overtime on Saturday, Sept. 25. The Anchorwomen rebounded on Sunday, Sept. 26 when they notched a, 2-0, victory over non-conference opponent St. Joseph’s (ME).

 

Freshman forward Gina Calenda (Bristol, RI) has played in eight games, starting one of them. She has six goals and leads the team with 12 points.

 

Freshman midfielder Leah Hayes (Coventry, RI) has played in eight games, starting all of them. She has two goals and three assists for seven points.

 

Senior goalkeeper Melissa Carpentier (Woonsocket, RI) has played in six games, starting in five of them. She has a 3-3 record and 21 saves with a .808 save percentage and a 0.96 goals against average. She earned her 17th career shutout, increasing her RIC all-time record, in the win over Johnson & Wales earlier this season.

 

Sophomore midfielder Caitlin Gavin (Portsmouth, RI) has played in eight games, starting all of them. She has four goals and one assist for nine points. Gavin scored the game-winning goal in the win over St. Joseph’s on Sept. 26. She also scored the lone RIC goal in the overtime loss at Southern Maine.

 

Junior goalkeeper Alex Rothemich (Scituate, RI) has played in three games, starting two of them. She has a 1-1 record and 12 saves with a .571 save percentage and a 3.02 goals against average. Rothemich recorded her first shutout at RIC against St. Joseph’s on Sunday, Sept. 26.

 

Sophomore forward Erika Haaland (North Dartmouth, MA) has played in eight games, starting seven of them. She has three goals for six points.

 

Freshman midfielder Krista MacKinnon (Exeter, RI) has played in eight games, starting five of them. She has one goal and two assists for four points.

 

Senior forward and captain Elena Sanborn (North Scituate, RI) has played in eight games, starting all of them. She has one assist for one point.

 

Freshman midfielder Michaela Bileau (Woonsocket, RI) has played in eight games, starting three of them. She has two assists for two points.

 

Freshman midfielder Jessica Cardinal (Harrisville, RI) has played in eight games. She has one assist for one point.

 

Senior forward Lauren Tomasso (Cranston, RI) has played in eight games, starting all of them. She has one assist for one point.

 

Freshman defender Emily Moore (Coventry, RI) has played in seven games, starting in two of them. She has ten shots. 

 

Junior defender Katie Benevides (North Dighton, MA) has played in eight games, starting all of them.

 

Freshman defender Mallary Bileau (Woonsocket, RI) has played in eight games, starting all of them. She has two shots.

 

Freshman defender Kerry Donahue (Rehoboth, MA) has played in eight games, starting all of them.

 

Freshman forward Sarah Hamilton (Cromwell, CT) has played in seven games. She has five shots.

 

Freshman defender Marissa Kielbasinski (Windsor, CT) has played in five games.

 

Freshman forward Ashley Teixeira (Warren, RI) has played in five games. She has two shots.

 

Freshman defender Jackie Coleman (North Plymouth, MA) has played in eight games, starting in six of them. She has one assist for one point.

 

Freshman midfielder Kristie Martins (Harrisville, RI) has played in three games.

 

In upcoming action, RIC will play two games this week. The Anchorwomen will be at Framingham State on Thursday, Sept. 30 at 4 p.m., before hosting LEC opponent UMass-Boston on Saturday, Oct. 2 at 1 p.m.
