BOSTON, MA – Kyle Teixeira provided all the scoring with a hat trick to lead the Rhode Island College men’s soccer team over University of Massachusetts Boston this afternoon, 3-0, in a Little East Conference match at the Clark Athletic Center on the campus of UMass Boston.  The Beacons fall to 4-2-1 overall and 1-0-1 in the LEC, while the Anchormen improve to 5-4-2 and 2-0-1.

Despite Rhode Island College’s 9-2 shot advantage in the first half, the teams played to a scoreless tie through the first 45 minutes.

Teixeira finally broke through at the 54:31 mark of the second half when, after a UMB foul, Michael Maciel found him with a cross from left side and Teixeira put it home into the right corner for a 1-0 RIC edge.

Teixeira found the net again at 79:11 when he neatly eluded the Beacons’ backfield into the box and then ripped a ground shot from the right side into the left corner for a 2-0 Anchormen lead.  Teixeira capped the scoring with just 5:48 left to go in the match when Steve Alves’ shot was stopped by UMB goalkeeper Rich DaSilva (Medford, MA) and then collected by Teixeira on the rebound for an easy score.

DaSilva finished the day with 12 saves for the Beacons, while Sean Goncalves turned away nine shots to earn the shutout for Rhode Island College.

UMass Boston will be in action again when it travels to Keene, NH on Monday, October 4 to take on Little East Conference foe Keene State College at 6:30 p.m.
