Rhode Island College Volleyball Update #5

(8-12 Overall; 3-1 in the Little East Conference)

Providence, RI--Head Coach Craig Letourneau’s Anchorwomen are 8-12 overall and 3-1 in the Little East Conference. The Anchorwomen began the week with a miraculous victory over Western Connecticut State University on Wednesday night at The Murray Center. The Colonials came into the match with a 49-match winning streak against Little East Conference opposition during both regular season and tournament play. WCSU had not lost to a conference opponent since October of 1998. RIC was down 2-0 and the Colonials had match point in game three before the Anchorwomen sneaked out a, 32-30, win. RIC came back to win game four, 32-30, and took game three, 15-8, to complete the comeback win.

 

RIC hoped to take the momentum into its annual invitational, which the Anchorwomen hosted on Oct. 1-2. RIC breezed through the first round, blanking both Connecticut College and Mitchell College, 3-0. With the wins, the Anchorwomen advanced to the Championship Game and fell, 3-2, to Rivier College.

 

Sophomore outside hitter Kari Geisler (Deerfield, NH) has played in 73 games in 20 matches. She has 181 kills (2.48/game), a .200 hitting percentage, eight assists (0.11/ game), 26 service aces (0.36/game), 68 digs (0.93/game), and 25 blocks (0.34/game). She had 26 kills and 11 digs in the win over Western Connecticut. Geisler was named to the Bridgewater Invitational All-Tournament Team on Sept. 25.

 

Sophomore middle hitter Erin Miga (Cranston, RI) has played in 74 games in 20 matches. She has 171 kills (2.29/game), a .316 hitting percentage, and 90 blocks (1.22/game). Miga was named to the RIC Invitational’s All-Tournament Team for her performance in three matches.

 

Junior libero Stephanie Wojciechowski (North Kingstown, RI) has played in 74 games in 20 matches. She has 25 kills (0.34/game), a .091 hitting percentage, four assists (0.05/game), 28 service aces (0.38/game) and a team-high 173 digs (2.34/game). Wojciechowski was named to the RIC Invitational’s All-Tournament Team for her performance in three matches.

 

Junior outside hitter Kristy Nix (East Setauket, NY) has played in 73 games in 20 matches. She has 169 kills (2.32/game), a .207 hitting percentage, 22 service aces (0.30/game), five assists (0.07/game), 122 digs (1.67/game), and 18 blocks (0.25/game).

 

Freshman middle hitter Sherri Heard (Coventry, RI) has played in 73 games in 20 matches. She has 126 kills (1.73/game), a .188 hitting percentage, 23 service aces (0.32/game) four assists (0.05/game) and 45 blocks (0.62/game). She has been named the Little East Conference’s Rookie of the Week once this season.

 

Freshman setter Amy Souza (Tiverton, RI) has played in 63 games in 20 matches. She has seven kills (0.11/game), 392 assists (6.22/game), 15 service aces (0.24/game) and 52 digs (0.83/game).

 

          For her efforts, Souza was named the Little East Conference Women’s Volleyball Rookie of the Week. She played in 14 games in four matches, notching 23 digs and 112 assists and four aces. She had 54 assists, seven digs and one ace in a miraculous win over Western Connecticut. For the season, she has played in 63 games in 20 matches. She has seven kills (0.11/game), 392 assists (6.22/game), 15 service aces (0.24/game) and 52 digs (0.83/game).

 

Junior right side hitter Sara Chamberland (Coventry, RI) has played in 58 games in 16 matches. She has 39 kills (0.67/game), 14 assists (0.24/game), 46 digs (0.79/game), 20 blocks (0.34/game) and eight service aces (0.14/game).

 

Freshman setter Jeanne Rosa (Milford, CT) has played in 54 games in 20 matches. She has 183 assists (3.39/game), 27 service aces (0.50/game), 47 digs (0.87/game), and eight blocks (0.15/game).

 

Sophomore defensive specialist Kara Sarcione (Londonderry, NH) has played in 61 games in 20 matches. She has 35 assists (0.57/game), 27 service aces (0.44/game) and 70 digs (1.15/game).

 

Sophomore outside hitter Julie Seitsinger (North Kingstown, RI) has played in 21 games in 14 matches. She has four kills (0.19/ game), four service aces (0.19/game), seven digs (0.33/game) and one block (0.05/game).

 

Freshman outside hitter Brooke Bryant (Nashua, NH) has played in 27 games in 14 matches. She has 22 kills (0.81/game), a .046 hitting percentage, two service aces (0.07/game), 13 digs (0.48/game) and four blocks (0.15/game).

 

Freshman defensive specialist Pam Franzese (Carle Place, NY) has played in ten games in seven matches. She has nine digs (0.90/game).

 

Freshman middle hitter Madison Greene (Cranston, RI) has played in 14 games in nine matches. She has eight kills (0.57/game), and one block (0.07/game).

 

In upcoming action, RIC will play at Little East rival Keene State on Tuesday, Oct. 5 and then host a tri-match with Clark and Eastern Nazarene on Saturday, Oct. 9.
