Rhode Island College Womenís Soccer Update #5

(6-4 Overall; 1-2 in the Little East Conference)

Providence, RI--Head Coach Ryan Angelís team is 6-4 overall and 1-2 in the Little East Conference. In action last week, the Anchorwomen won on the road at Framingham State, 4-2, on Thursday, Sept. 30. The Anchorwomen then took on LEC opponent UMass-Boston at home on Saturday, Oct. 2. The large homecoming crowd went home happy, as the Anchorwomen went on to a, 7-0, victory.

 

Freshman midfielder Jessica Cardinal (Harrisville, RI) has played in nine games, starting one of them. She has three goals and one assist for seven points. She recorded her first collegiate goal, and then notched two more for a hat trick, in the win over UMass-Boston. For her efforts, Cardinal was named the Little East Conference's Rookie of the Week.

 

Freshman forward Gina Calenda (Bristol, RI) has played in ten games, starting three of them. She has one assist, and leads the team in goals with seven, and points, with 15.

 

Freshman midfielder Leah Hayes (Coventry, RI) has played in nine games, starting all of them. She has two goals and three assists for seven points.

 

Senior goalkeeper Melissa Carpentier (Woonsocket, RI) has played in eight games, starting in seven of them. She has a 5-3 record and 27 saves with a .794 save percentage and a 1.04 goals against average. Carpentier played the first half, making two saves, in the win over Umass-Boston. She earned her 17th career shutout, increasing her RIC all-time record, in the win over Johnson & Wales earlier this season.

 

Sophomore midfielder Caitlin Gavin (Portsmouth, RI) has played in nine games, starting all of them. She has five goals and one assist for 11 points.

 

Junior goalkeeper Alex Rothemich (Scituate, RI) has played in four games, starting two of them. She has a 1-1 record and 12 saves with a .571 save percentage and a 2.59 goals against average. Rothemich played the second half in the shutout victory over UMass-Boston.

 

Sophomore forward Erika Haaland (North Dartmouth, MA) has played in nine games, starting seven of them. She has four goals and one assist for nine points.

 

Freshman midfielder Krista MacKinnon (Exeter, RI) has played in ten games, starting six of them. She has one goal and three assists for five points.

 

Senior forward Elena Sanborn (North Scituate, RI) has played in ten games, starting nine of them. She has five assists for five points. She notched two assists in each game played last week.

 

Freshman midfielder Michaela Bileau (Woonsocket, RI) has played in ten games, starting five of them. She has one goal and two assists for four points. She recorded her first collegiate goal in the win over UMass-Boston.

 

Senior forward Lauren Tomasso (Cranston, RI) has played in nine games, starting all of them. She has one assist for one point.

 

Freshman defender Emily Moore (Coventry, RI) has played in nine games, starting in three of them. She has 14 shots. 

 

Junior defender Katie Benevides (North Dighton, MA) has played in ten games, starting all of them.

 

Freshman defender Mallary Bileau (Woonsocket, RI) has played in ten games, starting all of them. She has two shots.

 

Freshman defender Kerry Donahue (Rehoboth, MA) has played in nine games, starting all of them.

 

Freshman forward Sarah Hamilton (Cromwell, CT) has played in eight games, starting one of them. She has one goal for two points. She notched her first collegiate goal in the win over UMass-Boston.

 

Freshman defender Marissa Kielbasinski (Windsor, CT) has played in five games.

 

Freshman forward Ashley Teixeira (Warren, RI) has played in six games. She has two goals for four points. She notched her first collegiate goal, on the way for two on the day, including the game winner, in the win over Framingham State.

 

Freshman defender Jackie Coleman (North Plymouth, MA) has played in ten games, starting in eight of them. She has one goal and one assist for three points. She recorded her first collegiate goal in the win over UMass-Boston.

 

Freshman midfielder Kristie Martins (Harrisville, RI) has played in four games, starting one of them.

 

Senior defender Courtney Gardiner (Warwick, RI) has played in two games.

 

In upcoming action, RIC will play three games this week. The Anchorwomen will host Green Mountain College on Tuesday, Oct. 5 at 3:30 p.m., before traveling to Salve Regina on Thursday, Oct. 7 at 4 p.m. RIC will close out the week at home on Saturday, Oct. 9, when they take on LEC opponent UMass-Dartmouth at 1 p.m.
