ANCHORMEN CONTINUE SHUTOUT STREAK IN, 3-0, WIN

Providence, RI—Rhode Island College improved to 6-4-2 overall with a, 3-0, victory over Newbury College in collegiate men’s soccer action. RIC has not allowed a goal in 290 minutes, having shut out UMass-Boston, 3-0, on Oct. 2 and playing Roger Williams to a double-overtime, 0-0, tie on Sept. 30.

Junior Matt Borges (New Bedford MA) scored what proved to be the game-winning goal in the eighth minute. Freshman Jeff Melo (North Providence, RI) and junior Kyle Teixeira (Warren, RI) added insurance goals in the 54th and 61st minute, respectively. Freshman Steve Alves (Seekonk, MA) assisted on Teixeira’s goal.

RIC freshman goalkeeper Jadon Neves (Warren, RI) earned the shutout, making three saves. Freshmen Brian Picano (Lowell, MA) and Drew Deveau (West Yarmouth, MA) split the game in net for NC, making two and 11 saves, respectively.
