LONGLEY’S GOLDEN GOAL DOWNS RIC, 2-1

Providence, RI—UMass-Dartmouth sophomore Hillary Longley (Swansea, MA) scored the “Golden Goal” in the 99th minute to lead the Corsairs past Rhode Island College, 2-1, in overtime. UMD improves to 7-4 overall 1-3 in the Little East Conference. RIC has a five-game winning streak snapped and falls to 8-5 overall and 1-3 in the LEC.

With the score deadlocked at 1-1, freshman Andrea Mota (Somerset, MA) broke down the left side and crossed a pass that Longley shot by RIC senior goalkeeper Melissa Carpentier (Woonsocket, RI) for the victory.

The Corsairs trailed at the half until sophomore Bryn Tattan (North Andover, MA) scored on a head pass from senior Amy Page (Mendon, MA) to tie the game in the 61st minute.

UMD junior goalkeeper Amy Tavares (Dartmouth, MA) made nine saves to earn the win. Carpentier made two stops in a losing effort for RIC.

RIC freshman Michaela Bileau (Woonsocket, RI) scored the lone goal for the Anchorwomen, converting a pass from freshman Gina Calenda (Warren, RI) in the 23rd minute.
