Rhode Island College Men’s Soccer Update #6

(6-5-2 Overall; 2-1-1 in the Little East Conference)

Providence, RI--Head Coach John Mello’s team is 6-5-2 overall and 2-1-1 in the Little East Conference. In action last week, the Anchormen won at home, 3-0, against Newbury College on Thursday, Oct. 7. RIC then went on the road on Saturday, Oct. 9 and dropped a, 2-0, decision to LEC foe UMass-Dartmouth.

 

Junior forward Kyle Teixeira (Warren, RI) has played in 13 games, starting all of them. He has 16 goals and three assists for 35 points on the season. Teixeira’s 16 goals and three assists give him 58 goals and 124 points for his career. Teixeira is now four goals and 17 points shy of RIC all-time career goals and points leader Domenico Petrarca (‘77). He scored the third and final goal in the win over Newbury College.

 

Sophomore forward Holman Giraldo (Pawtucket, RI) has played in 13 games, starting 12 of them. He has two goals and three assists for a total of seven points on the season.

 

Freshman goalkeeper Jadon Neves (Warren, RI) has played in eight games, starting seven of them. He has a record of 4-3-1 with 34 saves and has logged a .773 save percentage and a 1.32 goals against average. Neves recorded his third shutout of the season in the, 3-0, victory over Newbury College.

 

Freshman goalkeeper Sean Gonsalves (Somerset, MA) has played in six games, starting all of them. He has a record of 2-2-1 with 23 saves and has logged a .719 save percentage and a 1.58 goals against average. Gonsalves recorded his first collegiate shutout in the, 3-0, win over UMass-Boston on Oct. 2.

 

Freshman midfielder Steve Alves (Seekonk, MA) has played in 12 games, starting seven of them. He has two goals and two assists for six points on the season. Alves had a helper in the, 3-0, victory over Newbury College.

 

Freshman midfielder Jeff Melo (North Providence, RI) has played in 13 games, starting four of them. He has two goals for four points. He scored the second goal of the day in the win over Newbury College.

 

Junior defenseman Matt Borges (New Bedford, MA) has played in 13 games, starting 12 of them. He has one goal and one assist for three points. He scored his first goal of the season, which also turned out to be the game-winning goal, in the win over Newbury College.

 

Senior defender Mike Maciel (East Providence, RI) has played in 13 games, starting all of them. He has one assist for one point.

 

Junior midfielder Chris Cunha (East Providence, RI) has played in 11 games. He has two goals for four points on the season.

 

Freshman defenseman James Nigrelli (Ashaway, RI) has played in 12 games, starting in one of them. He has one goal and two assists for four points on the season.

 

Sophomore forward Chris Childs (Cranston, RI) has played in 12 games, starting in one of them. He has one goal and two assists for four points on the season.

 

Sophomore midfielder Nic Rossi (North Kingstown, RI) has played in ten games, starting nine of them. He has one goal and one assist for three points on the season.

 

Junior midfielder Joe Mackinnon (Exeter, RI) has played in five games, starting one of them. He has one goal for two points.

 

Freshman defenseman Matthew Souto (East Providence, RI) has played in 12 games, starting all of them. He has one goal for two points.

 

Junior defender Tim Leonard (Scituate, RI) has played in 12 games, starting 11 of them.

 

Junior midfielder Dan Toro (Pawtucket, RI) has played in 13 games, starting 12 of them. He has 11 shots. 

 

Sophomore defender and captain Scott Westcott (Scituate, RI) has played in nine games, starting four of them.

 

Freshman defenseman Kyle Remy (Bristol, RI) has played in 13 games, starting eight of them.

 

Sophomore defenseman Alain Edouard (Providence, RI) has played in ten games, starting four of them.

 

Sophomore midfielder Boima Konuwa (Pawtucket, RI) has played in four games. He has two shots.

 

Freshman midfielder Peter Keoghan (Warwick, RI) has played in two games. He has four shots.

 

Freshman defenseman Kevin Patterson (Narragansett, RI) has played in one game. He has one goal for two points. Patterson is out with an illness and is expected to miss the remainder of the season.

 

In upcoming action, RIC will play at Bridgewater State College on Thursday, Oct. 13 at 3:30 p.m. The Anchormen will then host LEC opponent Western Connecticut on Saturday, Oct. 16 at 1 p.m.
