Rhode Island College Men’s Soccer Update #7

(7-6-2 Overall; 3-1-1 in the Little East Conference)

Providence, RI--Head Coach John Mello’s team is 7-6-2 overall and 3-1-1 in the Little East Conference. In action last week, the Anchormen lost on the road, 2-1, against Bridgewater State College on Wednesday, Oct. 13. RIC then came back home on Saturday, Oct. 16 and took a, 2-1, overtime decision over Little East Conference foe Western Connecticut.

 

Junior forward Kyle Teixeira (Warren, RI) has played in 15 games, starting all of them. He has 17 goals and three assists for 37 points on the season. Teixeira’s 17 goals and three assists give him 59 goals and 132 points for his career. Teixeira is now three goals and 15 points shy of RIC all-time career goals and points leader Domenico Petrarca (‘77). He scored the first goal in the, 2-1, overtime win over Western Connecticut.

 

Freshman midfielder Jeff Melo (North Providence, RI) has played in 15 games, starting six of them. He has three goals for six points. He scored the game-winning goal in the, 2-1, win over Western Connecticut and was named the Little East Conference Men’s Soccer Rookie of the Week.

 

Sophomore forward Holman Giraldo (Pawtucket, RI) has played in 15 games, starting 14 of them. He has two goals and three assists for a total of seven points on the season.

 

Freshman goalkeeper Jadon Neves (Warren, RI) has played in ten games, starting nine of them. He has a record of 5-4-1 with 44 saves and has logged a .772 save percentage and a 1.34 goals against average.

 

Freshman goalkeeper Sean Gonsalves (Somerset, MA) has played in six games, starting all of them. He has a record of 2-2-1 with 23 saves and has logged a .719 save percentage and a 1.58 goals against average.

 

Freshman midfielder Steve Alves (Seekonk, MA) has played in 14 games, starting eight of them. He has two goals and two assists for six points on the season.

 

Junior defenseman Matt Borges (New Bedford, MA) has played in 15 games, starting 14 of them. He has one goal and one assist for three points.

 

Senior defenseman Mike Maciel (East Providence, RI) has played in 15 games, starting 14 of them. He has one assist for one point.

 

Junior midfielder Chris Cunha (East Providence, RI) has played in 13 games, starting one of them. He has two goals and one assist for five points. He notched his first assist of the season on the Anchormen’s only goal of the game in the, 2-1, loss to Bridgewater State.

 

Freshman defenseman James Nigrelli (Ashaway, RI) has played in 14 games, starting in two of them. He has one goal and two assists for four points.

 

Sophomore forward Chris Childs (Cranston, RI) has played in 14 games, starting in one of them. He has two goals and three assists for seven points on the season. Childs set up Jeff Melo’s game-winning goal in the, 2-1, win over Western Connecticut. He also netted the only goal for the Anchormen in the, 2-1, loss to Bridgewater State.

 

Sophomore midfielder Nic Rossi (North Kingstown, RI) has played in 12 games, starting nine of them. He has one goal and one assist for three points.

 

Junior midfielder Joe Mackinnon (Exeter, RI) has played in seven games, starting two of them. He has one goal and one assist for three points. He setup Kyle Teixeira’s goal in the, 2-1, overtime win over Western Connecticut.

 

Freshman defenseman Matthew Souto (East Providence, RI) has played in 14 games, starting all of them. He has one goal for two points.

 

Junior defenseman Tim Leonard (Scituate, RI) has played in 14 games, starting 13 of them.

 

Junior midfielder Dan Toro (Pawtucket, RI) has played in 15 games, starting 14 of them. He has 11 shots. 

 

Sophomore defenseman and captain Scott Westcott (Scituate, RI) has played in 11 games, starting four of them.

 

Freshman defenseman Kyle Remy (Bristol, RI) has played in 14 games, starting nine of them.

 

Sophomore midfielder Boima Konuwa (Pawtucket, RI) has played in six games. He has two shots.

 

Freshman midfielder Peter Keoghan (Warwick, RI) has played in two games. He has four shots.

 

Freshman defenseman Kevin Patterson (Narragansett, RI) has played in one game. He has one goal for two points. Patterson is out with an illness and is expected to miss the remainder of the season.

 

In upcoming action, RIC will be at home when they face Mitchell College on Wednesday, Oct. 20 at 3:30 p.m. The Anchormen will then travel to LEC foe Keene State on Saturday, Oct. 23 at 1 p.m.
