ANCHORWOMEN BLANK CARDINAL, 3-0

Providence, RI—Rhode Island College snapped a three-game losing streak with a, 3-0, win over visiting Wesleyan in collegiate women’s soccer action on Tuesday afternoon. RIC improved to 9-7 overall, while the loss dropped Wesleyan to 3-9.

 

Freshman Michaela Bileau (Woonsocket, RI) scored what proved to be the game-winning goal in the fourth minute to give RIC the lead for good. Freshman Gina Calenda (Warren, RI) established a new RIC record for goals and points in a season by a freshman when she scored in the 77th minute. Calenda now has 11 goals and 25 points on the season. Both goals were set up by freshman Krista MacKinnon (Exeter, RI). Junior goalkeeper Alex Rothemich (Scituate, RI) only needed to make two saves to earn her second shutout of the season.

 

RIC outshot Wesleyan 17-4 and Cardinal senior goalkeeper Kelly McFarling (Atlanta, GA) made ten saves in a losing effort.

 

In upcoming action, the Anchorwomen will host Keene State College on Saturday, Oct. 23 at 1 p.m.
