Rhode Island College Menís Soccer Update #8

(8-7-2 Overall; 3-2-1 in the Little East Conference)

Providence, RI--Head Coach John Melloís team is 8-7-2 overall and 3-2-1 in the Little East Conference. In action last week, the Anchormen won at home, 2-0, against Mitchell College on Wednesday, Oct. 20. RIC then went on the road on Saturday, Oct. 23 and lost a, 4-1, decision to Little East Conference foe Keene State.

 

Junior forward Kyle Teixeira (Warren, RI) has played in 16 games, starting all of them. He has 18 goals and three assists for 39 points on the season. Teixeiraís 18 goals and three assists give him 60 goals and 134 points for his career. Teixeira is now two goals and 13 points shy of RIC all-time career goals and points leader Domenico Petrarca (Ď77). He scored the lone goal in the Anchormenís loss to Keene State.

 

Freshman midfielder Jeff Melo (North Providence, RI) has played in 17 games, starting six of them. He has three goals and one assist for seven points. He notched the assist on the game-winning goal in the, 2-0, win over Mitchell College. He has been named the Little East Conference Menís Soccer Rookie of the Week once this season.

 

Sophomore forward Holman Giraldo (Pawtucket, RI) has played in 15 games, starting 14 of them. He has two goals and three assists for a total of seven points.

 

Freshman goalkeeper Jadon Neves (Warren, RI) has played in 12 games, starting ten of them. He has a record of 6-5-1 with 57 saves and has logged a .770 save percentage and a 1.47 goals against average.

 

Freshman goalkeeper Sean Gonsalves (Somerset, MA) has played in six games, starting all of them. He has a record of 2-2-1 with 23 saves and has logged a .719 save percentage and a 1.58 goals against average.

 

Freshman midfielder Steve Alves (Seekonk, MA) has played in 16 games, starting ten of them. He has three goals and two assists for eight points. He had the insurance goal in RICís, 2-0, win over Mitchell College.

 

Junior defenseman Matt Borges (New Bedford, MA) has played in 17 games, starting 16 of them. He has one goal and one assist for three points.

 

Senior defenseman Mike Maciel (East Providence, RI) has played in 17 games, starting 15 of them. He has one assist for one point.

 

Junior midfielder Chris Cunha (East Providence, RI) has played in 14 games, starting one of them. He has two goals and one assist for five points.

 

Freshman defenseman James Nigrelli (Ashaway, RI) has played in 16 games, starting in four of them. He has one goal and two assists for four points.

 

Sophomore forward Chris Childs (Cranston, RI) has played in 16 games, starting in two of them. He has two goals and three assists for seven points.

 

Sophomore midfielder Nic Rossi (North Kingstown, RI) has played in 14 games, starting 11 of them. He has one goal and one assist for three points.

 

Junior midfielder Joe Mackinnon (Exeter, RI) has played in nine games, starting three of them. He has one goal and one assist for three points.

 

Freshman defenseman Matthew Souto (East Providence, RI) has played in 16 games, starting 14 of them. He has two goals for four points. He scored the game-winning goal in the, 2-0, victory over Mitchell College.

 

Junior defenseman Tim Leonard (Scituate, RI) has played in 16 games, starting 15 of them.

 

Junior midfielder Dan Toro (Pawtucket, RI) has played in 17 games, starting 16 of them. He has 11 shots. 

 

Sophomore defenseman and captain Scott Westcott (Scituate, RI) has played in 13 games, starting five of them.

 

Freshman defenseman Kyle Remy (Bristol, RI) has played in 16 games, starting 11 of them.

 

Sophomore midfielder Boima Konuwa (Pawtucket, RI) has played in seven games. He has two shots.

 

Freshman midfielder Peter Keoghan (Warwick, RI) has played in two games. He has four shots.

 

Freshman defenseman Kevin Patterson (Narragansett, RI) has played in one game. He has one goal for two points. Patterson is out with an illness and is expected to miss the remainder of the season.

 

In upcoming action, RIC will play two home games this week. The Anchormen will host Worcester State College on Wednesday, Oct. 27 at 3:30 p.m. RIC will then close out the regular season against LEC foe Plymouth State on Saturday, Oct. 30 at 1 p.m.
