RIC SHUTS OUT WORCESTER STATE, 2-0

Providence, RIóRhode Island College blanked Worcester State College, 2-0, in collegiate menís soccer action on Wednesday afternoon. The Anchormen are now 9-7-2 overall and five of the teamís nine victories have come by way of shutout. The Lancers fall to 6-6-3 on the season with the loss.

 

Sophomore Joe Mackinnon (Exeter, RI) scored what proved to be the eventual game-winning goal in the 47th minute with a turnaround 15-yard shot that beat Lancer senior goalkeeper Ryan Gover (Douglas, MA). Junior Kyle Teixeira (Warren, RI) notched his 19th goal of the season in the 64th minute, converting a pass from sophomore Chris Childs (Cranston, RI). Teixeira upped his career goal total to 61 and needs one more to equal the all-time RIC record of 62 set by Domenico Petrarca (í77).

 

RIC freshman goalkeeper Jadon Neves (Warren, RI) made three saves to earn his fourth shutout of the season. Gover, who made four saves in 68 minutes, was relieved by senior Nick Robinson (North Attleboro, MA) for the final 22 minutes.

 

In upcoming action, the Anchormen will close out the season at home against Little East rival Plymouth State on Saturday, Oct. 30. The Lancers will close out the regular season at home against MASCAC rival Westfield State on Saturday, Oct. 30.
