TEIXERIA TIES RECORD IN LANDMARK WIN

Providence, RIóRhode Island College junior Kyle Teixeira (Warren, RI) scored his 20th goal of the season, and the 62nd of his collegiate career, to tie the RIC menís soccer record for the most career goals in the Anchormenís, 3-0, shutout victory over Plymouth State University.

Prior to the victory, the Anchormen had lost the last 18 meetings between the two clubs. RIC tied PSU in 1985 and 1981, but was 0-21-2 all-time against the Panthers prior to the win.

RIC finished the regular season with a 10-7-2 overall record and 4-2-1 mark in the Little East Conference. The win gives the Anchormen second place in the conference, the highest LEC finish in the programís history. RIC will host Plymouth State in  a LEC semi-final game on Wednesday, Nov. 3 at 2:30 p.m.

Freshman James Nigrelli (Ashaway, RI) netted what proved to be the game-winning goal in the 32nd minute, heading in a pass from Teixeira. Teixeira scored his goal in the 49th minute and sophomore Holman Giraldo (Pawtucket, RI) scored on a pass from sophomore Nic Rossi (North Kingstown, RI) in the 80th minute to seal the win.

RIC freshman goalkeeper Jadon Neves (Warren, RI) made three saves, including two key stops from point blank range in the early going, to earn his fifth shutout of the 2004 campaign.

PSU senior netminder Dan Custance (Holderness, NH) made four saves in a losing effort. The Panthers fall to 10-7-2 overall and 4-3 in the Little East.
