ANCHORMEN DOWN WILDCATS, 1-0;
WILL HOST CORSAIRS SATURDAY IN SEMI-FINALS

Providence, RIóThird-seeded Rhode Island College shut out sixth-seeded Johnson and Wales, 1-0, in a first round game of the 2004 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Menís Soccer Tournament. RIC will host seventh-seeded UMass-Dartmouth, which defeated second-seeded Salve Regina, 1-0, this afternoon as well, on Saturday, Nov. 13 at 1 p.m.

RIC junior Kyle Teixeira (Warren, RI) scored his 22nd goal of the season and that was all the Anchormen needed to advance in the tourney. Teixeira out-hustled a JWU defender, faked the goalkeeper and tucked a shot in the top, right-hand corner in the 60th minute.

Anchorman freshman goalkeeper Jadon Neves (Warren, RI) made three saves and picked up his sixth shutout of the season. JWU sophomore goalkeeper Brenton Blanchard (Saline, MI) made two stops in a losing effort.

RIC is now 12-8-2, while the loss drops JWU to 11-9-1. The Anchormen have the most wins in a season since the 1973 squad went 13-3.

Top-seeded M.I.T. defeated eighth-seeded Plymouth State University, 1-0, and will host fourth-seeded Coast Guard, which defeated fifth-seeded Southern Maine, 2-0, in the other semi-final game on Saturday.
