Dwayne Pina Named
Assistant Menís Basketball Coach
at Rhode Island College

 

Providence, RIóRhode Island College has named Dwayne Pina as an assistant menís basketball coach. He will assist Head Coach Jack Perri with all phases of the RIC menís basketball program including recruiting, scouting, administering practice and game coaching.

 

As an undergraduate, Pina joined the Boston College menís basketball team as a walk-on prior to the 1997-98 season and earned an athletic scholarship midway through that year. He played in 78 games for the Eaglesí during his career, making 38 starts, as a guard. In 1998-99, he played in and started all 27 of the Eaglesí games, averaging 4.5 assists per game, which ranked him seventh in the Big East Conference. Pina was named Team Defensive MVP in 1998, and earned the Top Playmaker honor in 1999.

 

In addition to his accomplishments on the court, Pina does his best to serve the local community. He was a director at the Boston College Basketball Camp during the summer from 1997-99, providing children with an interest in basketball with the fundamental knowledge and training of the sport. Pina currently works for the New Bedford (MA) Public School Department as a special education resource teacher.

 

He earned a bachelorís degree in communications from Boston College in 2001. He resides in New Bedford, Massachusetts
