Rhode Island College Baseball Update #1

(4-5 Overall; 0-0 in the Little East)

Providence, RI--Head Coach Jay Grenier's team is 4-5 overall and has yet to play a Little East Conference game. The squad’s first eight games took place from March 11-16 at the Clearwater Invitational in Clearwater, FL. RIC returned home to face Roger Williams on Tuesday, Mar. 22 and fell, 3-1, in a seven inning, shortened contest (darkness).

 

Senior outfielder Chris Higgins (Swansea, MA) has played in nine games, starting all of them. He is batting a .226 with seven hits, one RBI and two runs scored. Higgins owns a .273 on-base percentage and a 1.000 fielding percentage.

 

Senior pitcher/outfielder Glenn Dusablon (North Smithfield, RI) has played in eight games, starting all of them. He is batting .357 with a team-high 10 hits, seven runs scored and four doubles, along with two RBI and three walks. Dusablon owns a .500 slugging percentage, a .419 on-base percentage and a 1.000 fielding percentage. On the mound, Dusablon has appeared and started in one game. He owns a 1-0 record with a 3.00 ERA. In 6.0 innings pitched, he has struck out four batters.

 

Senior first baseman/pitcher Matt Brannon (Cranston, RI) has played in nine games, starting all of them. He is batting .308 with eight hits, one double, one triple, four walks, four runs scored and a team-high ten RBI. Brannon owns a .423 slugging percentage, a .400 on-base percentage and a .979 fielding percentage. On the mound, Brannon has appeared and started in one game. He owns a 0-1 record with a 5.79 ERA. In 4.2 innings pitched, he has struck out one batter.

 

Senior pitcher James Milano (Johnston, RI) has appeared in two games, starting both of them. He owns a 1-1 record with a 2.57 ERA. In a team-high 14.0 innings pitched, he has struck out ten batters.

 

Senior third baseman Chris Smaldone (Johnston, RI) has played in nine games, starting all of them. He is batting .130 with three hits, two doubles, three walks, two runs scored and two RBI. Smaldone owns a .217 slugging percentage, a .259 on-base percentage and a .872 fielding percentage.

 

Senior third baseman/designated hitter Brian Trupiano (Franklin, MA) has played in five games, starting all of them. He is batting .333 with five hits, two doubles, one run scored and one stolen base. Trupiano owns a .467 slugging percentage, a .333 on-base percentage and a .750 fielding percentage.

 

Junior pitcher Wade Briggs (Woonsocket, RI) has appeared in two games, starting both of them. He has no record with a team-best 1.54 ERA. In 11.2 innings pitched, he has a team-high 18 strikeouts.

 

Junior right fielder Mike Naylor (Warwick, RI) broke his hand after being hit by a pitch, and will be out the remainder of the season. Prior to getting injured, Naylor played in seven games, starting all of them. He batted .318 with seven hits, one double, six runs scored and three RBI. Naylor owned a .364 slugging percentage, a .333 on-base percentage and a 1.000 fielding percentage.

 

Junior pitcher Bruce Taraska (Exeter, RI) has appeared in two games. He owns a 1-0 record with a 0.00 ERA. In 2.0 innings pitched, he has struck out two batters.

 

Sophomore pitcher Caleb Barber (Mystic, CT) has appeared in two games, starting one of them. He owns a 1-1 record with a 4.50 ERA. In 8.0 innings pitched, he has struck out seven batters.

 

Sophomore catcher Tim Henault (East Greenwich, RI) has played in six games, starting four of them. He is batting a team-high .500 with eight hits, two doubles, one triple, four walks, five runs scored and four RBI. Henault owns a team-high .750 slugging percentage and a team-high .571 on-base percentage along with a 1.000 fielding percentage.

 

Senior infielder Jamie Aldoupolis (Ashland, MA) has played in five games, starting four of them. He is batting .357 with five hits, one triple, one home run, seven RBI and one walk. Aldoupolis owns a .714 slugging percentage, a .400 on-base percentage and a .947 fielding percentage.

 

Junior infielder/outfielder David Smith (Wakefield, RI) has played in five games, starting all of them. He is batting .182 with two hits, two walks, three runs scored and one RBI. Smith owns a .182 slugging percentage, a .357 on base percentage and a 1.000 fielding percentage.

 

Sophomore infielder Chris Martin (Watertown, CT) has played in four games, starting two of them. He is batting .364 with four hits, one triple, one walk and four runs scored. He owns a .545 slugging percentage, a .385 on base percentage and a 1.000 fielding percentage.

 

Freshman pitcher Brett Warner (Branford, CT) has appeared in one game. He owns a 0-0 record with a 27.00 ERA. In 1.0 innings pitched, he has struck out one batter.

 

Freshman first baseman Jesse Earl (North Providence, RI) has played in two games. He is batting 1.000 with one hit, one double, one walk and one run scored. Earl owns a 2.000 slugging percentage, a 1.000 on base percentage and a 1.000 fielding percentage.

In upcoming action, the Anchormen are scheduled to play three games this week. RIC will travel to face Coast Guard on Tuesday, Mar. 29 at 3 p.m., then will host Salem State on Thursday, Mar. 31 at 3 p.m. and will open up LEC play against Keene State on Saturday, Apr. 2 at noon.
