Rhode Island College Baseball Update #2

(6-5 Overall; 0-0 in the Little East)

Providence, RI--Head Coach Jay Grenier's team is 6-5 overall and has yet to play a Little East Conference game. The Anchormen played two games last week, winning both of them. RIC went on the road on Tuesday, Mar. 29 and took an, 18-4, decision over Coast Guard. The Anchormen then played their first home game of the season on Thursday, Mar. 31 and defeated Salem State, 6-2.

 

Senior outfielder Chris Higgins (Swansea, MA) has played in 11 games, starting all of them. He is batting a .333 with 13 hits, one home run, two doubles, eight RBI and five runs scored. Higgins owns a .372 on-base percentage, a .462 slugging percentage and a .909 fielding percentage.

 

Senior pitcher/outfielder Glenn Dusablon (North Smithfield, RI) has played in ten games, starting all of them. He is batting .324 with 11 hits, 11 runs scored and four doubles, along with two RBI, three walks and one stolen base. Dusablon owns a .441 slugging percentage, a .415 on-base percentage and a 1.000 fielding percentage. On the mound, Dusablon has appeared and started in one game. He owns a 1-0 record with a 3.00 ERA. In 6.0 innings pitched, he has struck out four batters.

 

Senior first baseman/pitcher Matt Brannon (Cranston, RI) has played in 11 games, starting all of them. He is batting .371 with 13 hits, one double, one triple, four walks, four runs scored and a team-high 13 RBI. Brannon owns a .457 slugging percentage, a .425 on-base percentage and a .982 fielding percentage. On the mound, Brannon has appeared and started in two games. He owns a 1-1 record with a 3.29 ERA. In 13 innings pitched, he has struck out eight batters. Brannon pitched a complete game, giving up only two runs in RICís, 6-2, victory over Salem State.

 

Senior pitcher James Milano (Johnston, RI) has appeared in three games, starting all of them. He owns a 1-1 record with a 2.81 ERA. In 16.0 innings pitched, he has struck out 12 batters.

 

Senior third baseman Chris Smaldone (Johnston, RI) has played in 11 games, starting all of them. He is batting .167 with five hits, two doubles, four walks, five RBI, three runs scored and one stolen base. Smaldone owns a .233 slugging percentage, a .286 on-base percentage and a .893 fielding percentage.

 

Senior third baseman/designated hitter Brian Trupiano (Franklin, MA) has played in six games, starting all of them. He is batting .263 with five hits, two doubles, two runs scored and one stolen base. Trupiano owns a .358 slugging percentage, a .263 on-base percentage and a .824 fielding percentage.

 

Junior pitcher Wade Briggs (Woonsocket, RI) has appeared in three games, starting two of them. He has no record with a 2.63 ERA. In 13.2 innings pitched, he has a team-high 20 strikeouts.

 

Junior right fielder Mike Naylor (Warwick, RI) broke his hand after being hit by a pitch, and will be out the remainder of the season. Prior to getting injured, Naylor played in seven games, starting all of them. He batted .318 with seven hits, one double, six runs scored and three RBI. Naylor owned a .364 slugging percentage, a .333 on-base percentage and a 1.000 fielding percentage.

 

Junior pitcher Bruce Taraska (Exeter, RI) has appeared in two games. He owns a 1-0 record with a 0.00 ERA. In 2.0 innings pitched, he has struck out two batters.

 

Sophomore pitcher Caleb Barber (Mystic, CT) has appeared in two games, starting one of them. He owns a 1-1 record with a 4.50 ERA. In 8.0 innings pitched, he has struck out seven batters.

 

Sophomore catcher Tim Henault (East Greenwich, RI) has played in eight games, starting six of them. He is batting a team-high .478 with 11 hits, three doubles, one triple, seven walks, 11 runs scored and six RBI. Henault owns a team-high .696 slugging percentage and a team-high .581 on-base percentage along with a 1.000 fielding percentage.

 

Senior infielder Jamie Aldoupolis (Ashland, MA) has played in six games, starting five of them. He is batting .278 with five hits, one triple, one home run, seven RBI and one walk. Aldoupolis owns a .556 slugging percentage, a .316 on-base percentage and a .950 fielding percentage.

 

Junior infielder/outfielder David Smith (Wakefield, RI) has played in seven games, starting six of them. He is batting .294 with five hits, two walks, four runs scored and two RBI. Smith owns a .294 slugging percentage, a .400 on base percentage and a 1.000 fielding percentage.

 

Sophomore infielder Chris Martin (Watertown, CT) has played in six games, starting three of them. He is batting .313 with five hits, one triple, one walk, three RBI and five runs scored. He owns a .438 slugging percentage, a .368 on base percentage and a 1.000 fielding percentage.

 

Freshman pitcher Brett Warner (Branford, CT) has appeared in two games. He owns a 0-0 record with a 13.50 ERA. In 2.0 innings pitched, he has struck out two batters.

 

Freshman first baseman Jesse Earl (North Providence, RI) has played in two games. He is batting 1.000 with one hit, one double, one walk and one run scored. Earl owns a 2.000 slugging percentage, a 1.000 on base percentage and a 1.000 fielding percentage.

 

Freshman infielder Peter Olson (North Providence, RI) has played in eight games, starting all of them. He is batting .240 with six hits, two doubles, two walks, one run scored and one RBI. Olson owns a .320 slugging percentage, a .296 on base percentage and a .914 fielding percentage.

Freshman outfielder Ryan Bere (Belmont, MA) has played in two games.

 

In upcoming action, the Anchormen are scheduled to play five games this week. RIC will host Babson on Tuesday, Apr. 5 at 3:30 p.m. before heading out on the road again to face Bridgewater State on Wednesday, Apr. 6 at 3:30 p.m., LEC foe UMass Dartmouth on Thursday, Apr. 7 at 3:30 p.m. and Southern Maine in a double-header on Saturday, Apr. 9 at noon.
