BABSON DOWNS RIC, 13-3
Whelan paces Beavers on the mound, while defense does in Anchormen

Providence, RIóBabson College got the best of Rhode Island College with a, 13-3, victory over the Anchormen on Tuesday afternoon. Babson improves to 6-7, while the loss drops RIC to 6-6.

RIC sophomore pitcher Caleb Barber (Mystic, CT) felt the brunt of back-to-back errors committed by his defense in the top of the second inning. The Beavers were able to take advantage of the Anchormen miscues and score eight runs. RIC tried to rally in the next two innings, scoring once in its half of the second and twice in the bottom of the third. The lone spark of the offense was from senior Matt Brannon (Cranston, RI) as he hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the third inning.

For Babson, freshman Sam Whelan (Milton, MA) pitched eight strong innings giving up three runs on eight hits, improving his record to 2-1 on the year. At the plate, the Beavers were led by junior Ted Dziuba  (Wayne, NJ), who went 2-4 with two runs scored and four RBI. Freshman Robbie Leer (Edina, MN) also contributed with three hits (3-for-5), two runs scored and one run batted in.

In upcoming action, RIC will open travel to Bridgewater State tomorrow, Wednesday, Apr. 6 at 3:30 pm.
