Rhode Island College Baseball Update #3

(7-9 Overall; 1-2 in the Little East)

Providence, RI--Head Coach Jay Grenier's team is 7-9 overall and 1-2 in the Little East Conference. The Anchormen played four games last week, all on the road, and went 1-3. RIC traveled to Bridgewater State on Wednesday, Apr. 6 and dropped a, 3-2, decision to the Bears. The Anchormen then opened up Little East play at UMass-Dartmouth and blanked the Corsairs, 4-0, on Thursday, Apr. 7. RIC then traveled north to LEC foe Southern Maine on Saturday, Apr. 9, and dropped both games of a doubleheader, 12-1 and 7-2, respectively.

 

Senior outfielder Chris Higgins (Swansea, MA) has played in 16 games, starting all of them. He is batting a team-high .345 with 20 hits, one home run, two doubles, ten RBI, seven runs scored and four walks. Higgins owns a .391 on-base percentage, a .431 slugging percentage and a .947 fielding percentage. He has been name the LEC Player of the Week once this season.

 

Senior pitcher/outfielder Glenn Dusablon (North Smithfield, RI) has played in 14 games, starting all of them. He is batting .260 with 13 hits, 12 runs scored and four doubles, along with two RBI, seven walks and one stolen base. Dusablon owns a .340 slugging percentage, a .356 on-base percentage and a 1.000 fielding percentage. On the mound, Dusablon has appeared and started in two games. He owns a 1-0 record with a 2.57 ERA. In 14.0 innings pitched, he has struck out eight batters.

 

Senior first baseman/pitcher Matt Brannon (Cranston, RI) has played in 16 games, starting all of them. He is batting .309 with 17 hits, one double, one triple, one home run, four walks, nine runs scored and a team-high 15 RBI. Brannon owns a .418 slugging percentage, a .350 on-base percentage and a .988 fielding percentage. On the mound, Brannon has appeared and started in two games. He owns a 1-1 record with a 3.29 ERA. In 13 innings pitched, he has struck out eight batters.

 

Senior pitcher James Milano (Johnston, RI) has appeared in five games, starting four of them. He owns a 1-2 record with a 4.70 ERA. In 23.0 innings pitched, he has struck out 16 batters.

 

Senior third baseman Chris Smaldone (Johnston, RI) has played in 16 games, starting all of them. He is batting .191 with nine hits, two doubles, four walks, five RBI, three runs scored and one stolen base. Smaldone owns a .234 slugging percentage, a .269 on-base percentage and a .903 fielding percentage.

 

Senior third baseman/designated hitter Brian Trupiano (Franklin, MA) has played in nine games, starting eight of them. He is batting .296 with eight hits, two doubles, two runs scored and two stolen bases. Trupiano owns a .370 slugging percentage, a .296 on-base percentage and a .826 fielding percentage.

 

Junior pitcher Wade Briggs (Woonsocket, RI) has appeared in four games, starting three of them. He has a 1-1 record, throwing one complete game, and is tied for a team-best 1.59 ERA. In 22.2 innings pitched, he has a team-high 27 strikeouts.

 

Junior right fielder Mike Naylor (Warwick, RI) broke his hand after being hit by a pitch, and will be out the remainder of the season. Prior to getting injured, Naylor played in seven games, starting all of them. He batted .318 with seven hits, one double, six runs scored and three RBI. Naylor owned a .364 slugging percentage, a .333 on-base percentage and a 1.000 fielding percentage.

 

Junior pitcher Bruce Taraska (Exeter, RI) has appeared in four games. He owns a 1-0 record and is tied with a team-best 1.59 ERA. In 5.2 innings pitched, he has struck out five batters.

 

Sophomore pitcher Caleb Barber (Mystic, CT) has appeared in four games, starting two of them. He owns a 1-2 record with one complete game and a 3.97 ERA. In 11.1 innings pitched, he has struck out eight batters.

 

Sophomore catcher Tim Henault (East Greenwich, RI) has played in 13 games, starting 11 of them. He is batting .341 with 15 hits, three doubles, one triple, seven walks, a team-high 13 runs scored and eight RBI. Henault owns a .455 slugging percentage and a team-high .423 on-base percentage along with a .987 fielding percentage.

 

Senior infielder Jamie Aldoupolis (Ashland, MA) has played in eight games, starting six of them. He is batting .261 with six hits, one triple, one home run, eight RBI and one walk. Aldoupolis owns a .478 slugging percentage, a .292 on-base percentage and a .885 fielding percentage.

 

Junior infielder/outfielder David Smith (Wakefield, RI) has played in 12 games, starting 11 of them. He is batting .188 with five hits, three walks, five runs scored and two RBI. Smith owns a .188 slugging percentage, a .297 on base percentage and a .933 fielding percentage.

 

Sophomore infielder Chris Martin (Watertown, CT) has played in eight games, starting five of them. He is batting .208 with five hits, one triple, one walk, three RBI and five runs scored. He owns a .292 slugging percentage, a .259 on base percentage and a 1.000 fielding percentage.

 

Freshman pitcher Brett Warner (Branford, CT) has appeared in two games. He owns a 0-0 record with a 13.50 ERA. In 2.0 innings pitched, he has struck out two batters.

 

Freshman first baseman Jesse Earl (North Providence, RI) has played in three games. He is batting .500 with one hit, one double, one walk and one run scored. Earl owns a 1.000 slugging percentage, a .667 on base percentage and a 1.000 fielding percentage.

 

Freshman infielder Peter Olson (North Providence, RI) has played in 12 games, starting 11 of them. He is batting .270 with ten hits, three doubles, two walks, two runs scored and two RBI. Olson owns a .351 slugging percentage, a .308 on base percentage and a .931 fielding percentage.

 

Freshman pitcher Eric Thibault (Somerset, MA) has appeared in five games, starting three of them. He owns a 1-2 record with a 4.30 ERA and one complete game. In 23.0 innings pitched, he has struck out 16 batters.

 

Freshman outfielder Robert Doyon (Douglas, MA) has played in ten games, starting nine of them. He is batting .306 with 11 hits, one home run, four doubles, two walks, five RBI and four runs scored. Doyon owns a team-high .500 slugging percentage, a .342 on base percentage and a 1.000 fielding percentage.

 

Freshman pitcher Eric Fama (Wappingers Falls, NY) has appeared in four games. He owns a 0-1 record with a 9.00 ERA. In 5.0 innings pitched, he has struck out seven batters.

 

Freshman pitcher Brian Farley (North Providence, RI) has appeared in four games. He owns a 0-1 record with a 18.00 ERA. In 4.0 innings pitched, he has struck out two batters.

 

Freshman pitcher Carlos Hernandez (Providence, RI) has appeared in one game. He owns a 0-0 record with a 0.00 ERA. In 1.0 innings pitched, he has struck out one batter.

 

Freshman catcher Paul Kelley (Hope, RI) has played in two games. He has two walks and one run scored. Kelley owns an on base percentage of .333 and a fielding percentage of 1.000.

 

Freshman outfielder Ryan Bere (Belmont, MA) has played in two games.

 

In upcoming action, the Anchormen are scheduled to play six games this week, all at home. RIC will face LEC foe UMass Dartmouth on Tuesday, Apr. 12 at 3:30 p.m. to wrap up their season series. RIC will then play non-conference opponent Roger Williams on Wednesday, Apr. 13 at 3:30 p.m., before closing out the week with back-to-back doubleheaders against LEC opponents UMass Boston on Saturday, Apr. 16 and Keene State on Sunday, Apr. 17. Both games start at noon.
