Rhode Island College Softball Update #2

(9-9 Overall; 2-0 in the Little East)

Providence, RI--Head Coach Maria Morin’s team is 9-9 overall and 2-0 in the Little East Conference. The Anchorwomen played four doubleheaders last week, going 5-3. RIC split two games at Bridgewater State on Tuesday, Apr. 5 (4-7, 9-1), before getting swept by nationally ranked Wheaton College (0-5, 0-12) at home on Wednesday, Apr. 6. The Anchorwomen then went on to win their final four games of the week. RIC took two from Johnson & Wales (8-1, 8-0) on Thursday, Apr. 7. The Anchorwomen opened up Little East play at Keene State on Saturday, Apr. 9 and swept the Owls (3-2 in nine innings, 10-4).

 

Senior third baseman Amy Machado (Newport, RI) has played in 17 games, starting 16 of them. She is batting .345 with 19 hits, five doubles, two triples, seven runs scored and 11 RBI. Machado owns a .509 slugging percentage, a .351 on-base percentage and a .889 fielding percentage.

 

Junior outfielder Katie Benevides (North Dighton, MA) has played in 16 games, starting all of them. She is batting .167 with six hits, one double, two runs scored, one RBI and two walks. Benevides owns a .194 slugging percentage, a .231 on base percentage and a 1.000 fielding percentage.

 

Junior shortstop/outfielder Adora Burke (Naples, ME) has played in 15 games, starting 11 of them. She is batting .333 with ten hits, three doubles, three walks, five runs scored and four RBI. Burke owns a .433 slugging percentage and a .394 on base percentage along with a .844 fielding percentage.

 

Junior outfielder Megan Ponte (Wakefield, RI) has played in 14 games, starting 13 of them. She is batting .129 with four hits, two walks and six runs scored. Ponte owns a .129 slugging percentage, a .250 on-base percentage and a .929 fielding percentage.

 

Junior outfielder Andree Sitnik (Lincoln, RI) has played in 15 games, starting eight of them. She is batting .222 with four hits, one double, one RBI and four runs scored. Sitnik owns a .278 slugging percentage, a .263 on-base percentage and a .818 fielding percentage.

 

Sophomore catcher/designated player Kristyn Alexander (East Wareham, MA) has played in 17 games, starting 13 of them. She is batting .250 with 11 hits, one double, two walks, two runs scored and one RBI. Alexander owns a .273 slugging percentage, a .283 on-base percentage and a .962 fielding percentage.

 

Sophomore pitcher Nicole Riley (North Providence, RI) has played in nine games, starting seven of them. She is batting .261 with six hits, one triple, two runs scored and four RBI. Riley owns a .348 slugging percentage, a .261 on base percentage and a .878 fielding percentage. On the mound, she has appeared in 12 games, starting seven of them. She owns a 3-4 record with a 2.75 ERA and has one complete game. In 51.0 innings pitched, she has struck out 47 batters.

 

Sophomore infielder Crystal O’Connell (Somerset, MA) has played in ten games, starting eight of them. She is batting .188 with three hits, one run scored, one walk, one stolen base and four RBI. O’Connell owns a .188 slugging percentage, a .278 on-base percentage and a .944 fielding percentage.

 

Sophomore infielder Katelyn Labelle (South Dartmouth, MA) has played in 11 games, starting seven of them. She is batting .167 with two hits, one walk, one run scored and one RBI. Labelle owns a .167 slugging percentage, a .231 on-base percentage and a .925 fielding percentage.

 

Sophomore outfielder Casie Lyons (Hudson, MA) has played in 14 games, starting eight of them. She is batting .136 with three hits, two walks and five runs scored. Lyons owns a .136 slugging percentage, a .208 on-base percentage and a .938 fielding percentage.

 

Freshman catcher Krystal Bilek (Fitchburg, MA) has played in six games, starting five of them. She is batting .389 with seven hits, one home run, one walk, two runs scored and a team-high seven RBI. Bilek owns a .556 slugging percentage, a .450 on base percentage and a 1.000 fielding percentage.

 

Freshman first baseman Christie Lotti (Waterford, CT) has played in 17 games, starting 16 of them. She is batting .346 with 18 hits, eight runs scored and a team-high five walks along with one home run and two RBI. Lotti owns a .519 slugging percentage, a .404 on base percentage and a .986 fielding percentage.

 

Freshman catcher/infielder Jeanne Rosa (Milford, CT) has played in 18 games, starting 15 of them. She is batting a team-high .400 with 18 hits, five doubles, five RBI and eight runs scored. Rosa owns a .511 slugging percentage, a .413 on base percentage and a .976 fielding percentage.

 

Freshman catcher/third baseman Jill DeLuca (West Warwick, RI) has played in 16 games, starting 12 of them. She is batting .372 with 16 hits, one home run, three doubles, one triple, a team-high 11 runs scored and five RBI. DeLuca owns a team-high .558 slugging percentage, a .400 on base percentage and a .857 fielding percentage.

 

Freshman pitcher/infielder Katie Sayball (Milford, CT) has played in 11 games, starting seven of them. She is batting .154 with two hits. Sayball owns a .154 slugging percentage, a .154 on base percentage and a .967 fielding percentage. On the mound, she has appeared in 12 games, starting two of them. She owns a 0-1 record with a 3.23 ERA. In 26.0 innings pitched, she has struck out 12 batters.

 

Freshman designated player Kayla Baranski (Cumberland, RI) has played in 11 games, starting three of them. She is batting .118 with two hits. Baranski owns a .118 slugging percentage, a .200 on base percentage and a 1.000 fielding percentage. On the mound, she has appeared in one game.

 

Freshman outfielder Rachelle Edgar (Waterford, CT) has played in eight games, starting three of them. She is hitting .143 with one hit, one stolen base and two runs scored. Edgar owns a .143 slugging percentage, a .143 on base percentage and a 1.000 fielding percentage.

 

Freshman pitcher Heidi Eichler (Madison, CT) has played in five games, starting four of them. She is batting .200 with one hit and one run scored. Freshman second baseman/shortstop Katie Chadwick (Wakefield, RI) has played in seven games, starting two of them.

 

In upcoming action, the Anchorwomen are scheduled to play four doubleheaders this week. RIC will open up the week at Coast Guard on Tuesday, Apr. 12 at 3:30 p.m. The Anchorwomen will return home on Thursday, Apr. 14 at 3:30 p.m. against non-conference foe Salve Regina, before going on the road to face LEC opponent UMass Boston on Saturday, Apr. 16 at 1 p.m. The Anchorwomen will finish the week off at home on Sunday, Apr. 17 at 1 p.m. against Southern Maine.
