RIC OUTLASTS ROGER WILLIAMS, 14-12
Connell and Higgins lead Anchormen to victory

Providence, RIóIn an offensive battle, Rhode Island College defeated Roger Williams, 14-12, on Wednesday afternoon. With the win, RIC improves to 9-9, while the loss drops Roger Williams to 10-17.

 

RIC freshman first basemen Jim Connell (Smithfield, RI) had a career day as he was 4-for-5 at the plate with one run scored and six RBI. Connell belted his first career home run in the bottom of the second, an inning in which seven Anchormen crossed home plate. Senior left fielder Chris Higgins (Swansea, MA) also had a nice afternoon going a perfect 5-for-5 with three runs scored and one run batted in.

 

Down 12-1 going to the top of the fifth inning, the Hawks battled back to tie the game in the top of the sixth inning as they plated six runs. Senior center fielder Andy Dillon (Whitman, MA) led RWU with a 2-for-4 day with three runs scored and one run batted in. The lead would be short-lived as RIC added a run in both the bottom of the sixth and seventh innings. Sophomore Caleb Barber (Mystic, CT) came on in relief to pick up his second win of the season for RIC. Anchorman freshman Eric Fama (Wappingors Falls, NY) pitched a perfect ninth inning to earn his first career save. Will Rivkin (Millerton, NY) took the loss, giving up the go ahead runs, dropping his record to 0-1 for the year.

 

In upcoming action, RIC will host UMass Boston in a doubleheader on Saturday, Apr. 16 at Noon.
