Rhode Island College Softball Update #3

(14-12 Overall; 5-1 in the Little East)

Providence, RI--Head Coach Maria Morinís team is 14-12 overall and 5-1 in the Little East Conference. The Anchorwomen played four doubleheaders last week, going 5-3. RIC dropped two games at Coast Guard on Tuesday, Apr. 12 (3-2, 3-0), before sweeping Salve Regina (8-0, 4-0) at home on Thursday, Apr. 14. The Anchorwomen then went on to win three of their final four games of the week. RIC took two on the road against LEC foe UMass Boston (8-0, 10-0) on Saturday, Apr. 16. The Anchorwomen then hosted LEC opponent Southern Maine on Sunday, Apr. 17 and split with the doubleheader with Huskies, losing game one, 1-0, but coming back to take game two, 1-0, in eight innings.

 

Sophomore pitcher Nicole Riley (North Providence, RI) has played in 15 games, starting 11 of them. She is batting .212 with seven hits, one triple, one stolen base four runs scored and four RBI. Riley owns a .273 slugging percentage, a .278 on base percentage and a .880 fielding percentage. On the mound, she has appeared in 16 games, starting ten of them. She owns a 6-4 record with a save. She has a team-best 2.10 ERA and has pitched three complete games. In a team-high 70.0 innings pitched, she has struck out a team-high 67 batters. She appeared in four games last week, going 2-0 with one save. She logged a miniscule .37 earned run average with 20 strikeouts in 19 innings pitched. She fired a perfect game (5 inn.) in RICís 10-0 win over UMass Boston on Apr. 16. She followed that up with a complete game, two-hitter in the 1-0 (8 inn.) win over Southern Maine on Apr. 17.

 

Freshman first baseman Christie Lotti (Waterford, CT) has played in 25 games, starting 24 of them. She is batting a team-high .385 with a team-high 30 hits, 18 runs scored, eight walks, two triples and two home runs along with six doubles and eight RBI. Lotti owns a .590 slugging percentage, a .442 on base percentage and a .990 fielding percentage. She went 12-for-26 last week for a .462 batting average. She had ten runs scored, six RBI, two doubles, two triples, a home run and five stolen bases. Lotti tripled and scored the winning run on a passed ball in RICís 1-0 (8 inn.) win over Southern Maine on Apr. 17.

 

Freshman catcher/third baseman Jill DeLuca (West Warwick, RI) has played in 18 games, starting 13 of them. She is batting .340 with 16 hits, one home run, three doubles, one triple, one walk, 11 runs scored and five RBI. DeLuca owns a .511 slugging percentage, a .367 on base percentage and a .857 fielding percentage.

 

Senior third baseman Amy Machado (Newport, RI) has played in 25 games, starting 24 of them. She is batting .354 with 28 hits, nine doubles, two triples, ten runs scored and 14 RBI. Machado owns a .519 slugging percentage, a .366 on-base percentage and a .915 fielding percentage.

 

Junior outfielder Katie Benevides (North Dighton, MA) has played in 23 games, starting all of them. She is batting .224 with 13 hits, one double, four runs scored, two RBI and two walks. Benevides owns a .241 slugging percentage, a .262 on base percentage and a .970 fielding percentage.

 

Junior shortstop/outfielder Adora Burke (Naples, ME) has played in 23 games, starting 18 of them. She is batting .347 with 17 hits, three doubles, one triple, eight walks, nine runs scored and seven RBI. Burke owns a .449 slugging percentage and a .439 on base percentage along with a .881 fielding percentage.

 

Junior outfielder Megan Ponte (Wakefield, RI) has played in 21 games, starting 20 of them. She is batting .204 with ten hits, three walks, one stolen base, six runs scored and one RBI. Ponte owns a .204 slugging percentage, a .278 on-base percentage and a .955 fielding percentage.

 

Junior outfielder Andree Sitnik (Lincoln, RI) has played in 19 games, starting 12 of them. She is batting .231 with six hits, one double, one RBI, seven runs scored and two walks. Sitnik owns a .269 slugging percentage, a .286 on-base percentage and a .857 fielding percentage.

 

Sophomore catcher/designated player Kristyn Alexander (East Wareham, MA) has played in 25 games, starting 21 of them. She is batting .254 with 17 hits, two doubles, three walks, two runs scored and six RBI. Alexander owns a .284 slugging percentage, a .286 on-base percentage and a .976 fielding percentage.

 

Sophomore infielder Crystal OíConnell (Somerset, MA) has played in 14 games, starting 11 of them. She is batting .130 with three hits, three runs scored, three walks, two stolen bases and two RBI. OíConnell owns a .130 slugging percentage, a .259 on-base percentage and a .920 fielding percentage.

 

Sophomore infielder Katelyn Labelle (South Dartmouth, MA) has played in 15 games, starting ten of them. She is batting .158 with three hits, one double, three walks, four runs scored and one RBI. Labelle owns a .211 slugging percentage, a .273 on-base percentage and a .945 fielding percentage.

 

Sophomore outfielder Casie Lyons (Hudson, MA) has played in 18 games, starting 12 of them. She is batting .148 with four hits, two walks and five runs scored. Lyons owns a .148 slugging percentage, a .207 on-base percentage and a .949 fielding percentage.

 

Freshman catcher Krystal Bilek (Fitchburg, MA) has played in ten games, starting seven of them. She is batting .308 with eight hits, one home run, one double, one walk, two runs scored and ten RBI. Bilek owns a .462 slugging percentage, a .345 on base percentage and a 1.000 fielding percentage.

 

Freshman catcher/infielder Jeanne Rosa (Milford, CT) has played in 19 games, starting 16 of them. She is batting .375 with 18 hits, five doubles, five RBI and eight runs scored. Rosa owns a .479 slugging percentage, a .388 on base percentage and a .976 fielding percentage.

 

Freshman pitcher/infielder Katie Sayball (Milford, CT) has played in 16 games, starting 11 of them. She is batting .125 with two hits, one walk and one run scored. Sayball owns a .125 slugging percentage, a .176 on base percentage and a .978 fielding percentage. On the mound, she has appeared in 13 games, starting three of them. She owns a 1-1 record with a 2.71 ERA. In 31.0 innings pitched, she has struck out 14 batters.

 

Freshman designated player/pitcher Kayla Baranski (Cumberland, RI) has played in 12 games, starting three of them. She is batting .167 with three hits and two walks. Baranski owns a .167 slugging percentage, a .238 on base percentage and a 1.000 fielding percentage. On the mound, she has appeared in one game.

 

Freshman outfielder Rachelle Edgar (Waterford, CT) has played in 12 games, starting seven of them. She is hitting .200 with three hits, one stolen base and two runs scored. Edgar owns a .200 slugging percentage, a .250 on base percentage and a 1.000 fielding percentage.

 

Freshman pitcher Heidi Eichler (Madison, CT) has played in eight games, starting six of them. She is batting .273 with three hits, one double and two runs scored. Eichler owns a .364 slugging percentage, a .273 on base percentage and a 1.000 fielding percentage. On the mound, she has appeared in 15 games, starting 13 of them. She owns a 7-7 record with a 2.71 ERA. In 64.2 innings pitched, she has struck out 63 batters.

 

Freshman outfielder Amy Huston (Wakefield, RI) has played in 12 games. She has one walk and two runs scored.

 

Freshman second baseman/shortstop Katie Chadwick (Wakefield, RI) has played in nine games, starting three of them.

 

In upcoming action, the Anchorwomen are scheduled to play four doubleheaders this week. RIC will open up the week at home against LEC opponent UMass Dartmouth on Tuesday, Apr. 19 at 3:30 p.m. The Anchorwomen will travel to non-conference foe Westfield State on Thursday, Apr. 21 at 3:30 p.m., before hosting LEC opponent Plymouth State on Saturday, Apr. 23 at 1 p.m. The Anchorwomen will finish the week off on the road on Sunday, Apr. 24 at 1 p.m. at Western Connecticut.
