GAVIN TIES RIC RECORD IN, 16-12, WIN OVER CURRY
Portsmouth Native Nets Nine

            Providence, RI—Rhode Island College sophomore Caitlin Gavin (Portsmouth, RI) scored nine goals, tying the RIC school record for a game, in the Anchorwomen’s, 16-12, win over Curry College. The win snapped a two-game losing streak for RIC, which upped its record to 5-4. Curry falls to 5-8 on the season.

 

In addition to her nine goals, Gavin logged a solid all-around game with 12 draw controls and eight ground balls. Senior Danielle Beaudry (West Greenwich, RI) added two goals and two assists for four points. Freshman Melissa Reggio (Commack, NY) registered the hat trick with three goals, including the game-winner. Junior Crystal Colagiovanni (Johnston, RI) and freshman Kerry McDevitt (Jamestown, RI) also netted one goal apiece. Sophomore goalie Micaela Morris (Barrington, RI) made four saves to earn her fifth win (5-4).

 

Despite trailing, 11-3, after the first half, Curry attempted to come back, outscoring the Anchorwomen, 9-5, over the final 30 minutes. Sophomore Jess Nassar (North Andover, MA) scored three times, while freshman Meghan Tilley (Milton, MA), sophomore Emily Knight (Boulder, CO) and senior Nicole Wandy (Glastonbury, CT) each scored twice. Freshman goalie Jenna Goncalves (New Bedford, MA) made six saves in a losing effort.

 

In upcoming action, RIC will play at Elms tomorrow afternoon at 4 p.m.
