Rhode Island College Baseball Update #5

(12-13 Overall; 5-3 in the Little East)

Providence, RI--Head Coach Jay Grenier's team is 12-13 overall and 5-3 in the Little East Conference. The Anchormen played three games last week, all of them against non-conference opponents, and went 0-3. RIC opened up the week dropping a, 6-5, decision in ten innings to Elms on Tuesday, Apr. 19. The Anchormen traveled to Curry on Wednesday, Apr. 20 and fell, 14-12, then dropped an 11-4 decision at Clark on Thursday, Apr. 21.

 

Senior outfielder Chris Higgins (Swansea, MA) has played in 25 games, starting 24 of them. He is batting a team-high .458 with a team-high 44 hits along with two home runs, eight doubles, one triple, 22 RBI, 16 runs scored, seven walks and three stolen bases. Higgins owns team-highs with a .495 on-base percentage and a .625 slugging percentage. He also has a .927 fielding percentage. He has been named the LEC Player of the Week once this season.

 

Freshman first baseman Jim Connell (Smithfield, RI) has played in 23 games, starting 22 of them. He is batting .295 with 23 hits, seven doubles, two home runs, seven walks, 12 runs scored and 21 RBI. Connell owns a slugging percentage of .462, an on base percentage of .374 and a .980 fielding percentage.

 

Senior first baseman/pitcher Matt Brannon (Cranston, RI) has played in 25 games, starting all of them. He is batting .356 with 32 hits, three doubles, two triples, one home run, 18 runs scored, 22 RBI and 12 walks. Brannon owns a .467 slugging percentage, a .433 on-base percentage and a .990 fielding percentage. On the mound, Brannon has appeared in four games, starting three of them. He owns a 1-1 record with a 3.71 ERA. In 26.2 innings pitched, he has struck out 25 batters.

 

 Senior center fielder/pitcher Glenn Dusablon (North Smithfield, RI) has played in 22 games, starting all of them. He is batting .259 with 21 hits, six doubles, one home run, 11 walks, seven RBI and 22 runs scored. Dusablon owns a .370 slugging percentage, a .361 on-base percentage and 1.000 fielding percentage. On the mound, he has appeared in four games, starting all of them. He owns a 3-0 record with a 2.57 ERA. In 28.0 innings pitched, he has struck out 18 batters.

 

Senior pitcher James Milano (Johnston, RI) has appeared in seven games, starting six of them. He owns a 1-4 record with a 6.61 ERA. In 32.2 innings pitched, he has struck out 24 batters.

 

Senior third baseman Chris Smaldone (Johnston, RI) has played in 24 games, starting all of them. He is batting .216 with 16 hits, two doubles, six walks, eight RBI, eight runs scored and one stolen base. Smaldone owns a .243 slugging percentage, a .301 on-base percentage and a .929 fielding percentage.

 

Senior third baseman/designated hitter Brian Trupiano (Franklin, MA) has played in 15 games, starting 13 of them. He is batting .298 with 14 hits, three doubles, nine runs scored, two RBI and three stolen bases. Trupiano owns a .362 slugging percentage and a .313 on-base percentage.

 

Junior pitcher Wade Briggs (Woonsocket, RI) has appeared in six games, starting four of them. He has a 2-0 record with one save and has thrown one complete game. He leads all starters with a 1.76 ERA. In 30.2 innings pitched, he has a team-high 32 strikeouts.

 

Junior pitcher Bruce Taraska (Exeter, RI) has appeared in seven games. He owns a 1-0 record and leads all relievers with a 0.90 ERA. In 10.0 innings pitched, he has struck out seven batters.

 

Sophomore pitcher Caleb Barber (Mystic, CT) has appeared in six games, starting three of them. He owns a 2-2 record with one complete game and a 4.91 ERA. In 14.2 innings pitched, he has struck out 11 batters.

 

Sophomore catcher Tim Henault (East Greenwich, RI) has played in 22 games, starting 20 of them. He is batting .325 with 27 hits, five doubles, two triples, one home run, 14 walks, 22 runs scored and 16 RBI. Henault owns a .470 slugging percentage and a .414 on-base percentage along with a .992 fielding percentage.

 

Senior infielder Jamie Aldoupolis (Ashland, MA) has played in 16 games, starting 12 of them. He is batting .250 with 11 hits, one triple, one home run, 11 RBI, six runs scored and three walks. Aldoupolis owns a .364 slugging percentage, a .313 on-base percentage and a .843 fielding percentage.

 

Junior infielder/outfielder David Smith (Wakefield, RI) has played in 15 games, starting 14 of them. He is batting .205 with eight hits, seven walks, seven runs scored and three RBI. Smith owns a .205 slugging percentage, a .360 on base percentage and a .900 fielding percentage.

 

Sophomore infielder Chris Martin (Watertown, CT) has played in 14 games, starting eight of them. He is batting .179 with seven hits, one triple, two walks, four RBI and seven runs scored. He owns a .231 slugging percentage, a .250 on base percentage and a 1.000 fielding percentage.

 

Freshman pitcher Brett Warner (Branford, CT) has appeared in three games. He owns a 0-0 record with a 6.75 ERA. In 4.0 innings pitched, he has struck out three batters.

 

Freshman first baseman Jesse Earl (North Providence, RI) has played in five games. He is batting .286 with two hits, two doubles, one walk, one run scored and one RBI. Earl owns a .429 slugging percentage, a .375 on base percentage and a 1.000 fielding percentage.

 

Freshman infielder Peter Olson (North Providence, RI) has played in 20 games, starting 18 of them. He is batting .324 with 22 hits, one triple, seven doubles, five walks, seven runs scored and eight RBI. Olson owns a .456 slugging percentage, a .365 on base percentage and a .879 fielding percentage.

 

Freshman pitcher Eric Thibault (Somerset, MA) has appeared in six games, starting four of them. He owns a 2-2 record with a 4.22 ERA and one complete game. In a team-high 32.0 innings pitched, he has struck out 19 batters.

 

Freshman outfielder Robert Doyon (Douglas, MA) has played in 18 games, starting 17 of them. He is batting .286 with 20 hits, one home run, four doubles, five walks, nine RBI and 14 runs scored. Doyon owns a .386 slugging percentage, a .367 on base percentage and a 1.000 fielding percentage.

 

Freshman pitcher Eric Fama (Wappingers Falls, NY) has appeared in seven games. He owns a 0-2 record with a 6.23 ERA. In 8.2 innings pitched, he has struck out 12 batters.

 

Freshman pitcher Brian Farley (North Providence, RI) has appeared in eight games. He owns a 0-2 record with a 6.17 ERA. In 11.2 innings pitched, he has struck out 12 batters.

 

Freshman pitcher Carlos Hernandez (Providence, RI) has appeared in two games. He owns a 0-0 record with an 18.00 ERA. In 1.0 innings pitched, he has struck out one batter.

 

Freshman catcher Paul Kelley (Hope, RI) has played in three games. He has one walk and one run scored. Kelley owns an on base percentage of .167 and a fielding percentage of 1.000.

 

Freshman outfielder Ryan Bere (Belmont, MA) has played in two games.

 

Junior right fielder Mike Naylor (Warwick, RI) broke his hand after being hit by a pitch while down South, and will be out the remainder of the season. Prior to getting injured, Naylor played in seven games, starting all of them. He batted .318 with seven hits, one double, six runs scored and three RBI. Naylor owned a .364 slugging percentage, a .333 on-base percentage and a 1.000 fielding percentage.

 

In upcoming action, the Anchormen are scheduled to play four games this week. RIC will play its first two games of the week on the road on Tuesday, Apr. 26 at Wheaton at 3:30 p.m. and then at Framingham State on Thursday, Apr. 28 at 3:30 p.m. The Anchormen will then hold its Senior Day festivities when they host a doubleheader against LEC foe Eastern Connecticut on  Saturday, Apr. 30 at 1 p.m.
