ANCHORWOMEN HOPE FOR ECAC BID

            Providence, RI—Eastern Connecticut State University defeated Rhode Island College, 12-8, on a rain-soaked field in collegiate women’s lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon. The Warriors took a 6-3 lead into half-time, and outscored the Anchorwomen, 6-5, in the second frame to earn the victory.

 

Senior Mo Deegan (Westport, CT) paced ECSU’s attack with four goals and two assists for six points. Deegan’s goal with 19:24 left in the second half proved to be the game-winner. Senior Ashley Able (Mystic, CT) had three goals and junior midfielder Kara Mastroianni (Newington, CT) tallied twice. Sophomore goalie Erin Calkins (Stony Brook, NY) made 11 saves to improve her record to 9-6 on the season.

 

RIC sophomore Caitlin Gavin (Portsmouth, RI) led all scorers with seven goals in a losing effort. Freshman Melissa Reggio (Commack, NY) had one goal and two assists and freshman Krista MacKinnon (Exeter, RI) had one helper. Sophomore goalie Micaela Morris (Barrington, RI) made 14 saves as her record falls to 8-6.

 

In upcoming action, Eastern Connecticut will compete in the Little East Conference Women’s Lacrosse Tournament, while RIC will hold out hope for an ECAC Div. III Women’s Lacrosse bid.
