Rhode Island College Baseball Update #6

(12-15 Overall; 5-4 in the Little East)

Providence, RI--Head Coach Jay Grenier's team is 12-15 overall and 5-4 in the Little East Conference. The Anchormen went 0-2 last week, falling, 16-6, at Wheaton on Tuesday, Apr. 26 and, 12-0 (6 inn.) vs. Eastern Connecticut on Saturday, Apr. 30. RIC was only able to get in six innings of the first game in a scheduled doubleheader with Eastern Connecticut on Apr. 30 and had its doubleheader at Thomas cancelled on Sunday, May 1 due to inclement weather.

 

 In upcoming action, RIC will play game two of the season series with Eastern Connecticut at ECSU tonight at 7 p.m. The Anchormen will play at Johnson & Wales tomorrow, at Babson on Wednesday, May 4 and will close out the regular season with doubleheaders at Plymouth State on Saturday, May 7 and at Western Connecticut on Sunday, May 8.

 

Senior outfielder Chris Higgins (Swansea, MA) has played in 27 games, starting 26 of them. He is batting a team-high .451 with a team-high 46 hits along with two home runs, eight doubles, one triple, two home runs, 23 RBI, 17 runs scored, seven walks and three stolen bases. Higgins owns team-highs with a .491 on-base percentage and a .608 slugging percentage. He also has a .939 fielding percentage. He has been named the LEC Player of the Week once this season.

 

Freshman first baseman Jim Connell (Smithfield, RI) has played in 24 games, starting 23 of them. He is batting .277 with 23 hits, seven doubles, two home runs, seven walks, 12 runs scored and 21 RBI. Connell owns a slugging percentage of .434, an on base percentage of .354 and a .980 fielding percentage. He has been named the Little East Conference Baseball Rookie of the Week once this season.

 

Senior first baseman/pitcher Matt Brannon (Cranston, RI) has played in 27 games, starting all of them. He is batting .351 with 33 hits, three doubles, two triples, one home run, 19 runs scored, 22 RBI and 13 walks. Brannon owns a .457 slugging percentage, a .431 on-base percentage and a .991 fielding percentage. On the mound, Brannon has appeared in five games, starting four of them. He owns a 1-1 record with a 3.71 ERA. In 26.2 innings pitched, he has struck out 25 batters.

 

 Senior center fielder/pitcher Glenn Dusablon (North Smithfield, RI) has played in 24 games, starting all of them. He is batting .250 with 22 hits, six doubles, one home run, 11 walks, seven RBI and 23 runs scored. Dusablon owns a .352 slugging percentage, a .352 on-base percentage and 1.000 fielding percentage. On the mound, he has appeared in four games, starting all of them. He owns a 3-0 record with a 2.57 ERA. In 28.0 innings pitched, he has struck out 18 batters.

 

Senior pitcher James Milano (Johnston, RI) has appeared in nine games, starting seven of them. He owns a 1-5 record with a 6.46 ERA. In 39.0 innings pitched, he has struck out 27 batters.

 

Senior third baseman Chris Smaldone (Johnston, RI) has played in 26 games, starting all of them. He is batting .215 with 17 hits, two doubles, seven walks, eight RBI, nine runs scored and one stolen base. Smaldone owns a .241 slugging percentage, a .303 on-base percentage and a .910 fielding percentage.

 

Senior third baseman/designated hitter Brian Trupiano (Franklin, MA) has played in 17 games, starting 15 of them. He is batting .278 with 15 hits, four doubles, nine runs scored, three RBI and three stolen bases. Trupiano owns a .352 slugging percentage and a .291 on-base percentage.

 

Junior pitcher Wade Briggs (Woonsocket, RI) has appeared in seven games, starting five of them. He has a 2-1 record with one save and has thrown one complete game. He owns a 2.73 ERA. In 33.0 innings pitched, he has a team-high 32 strikeouts.

 

Junior pitcher Bruce Taraska (Exeter, RI) has appeared in seven games. He owns a 1-0 record and leads all relievers with a 0.90 ERA. In 10.0 innings pitched, he has struck out seven batters.

 

Sophomore pitcher Caleb Barber (Mystic, CT) has appeared in six games, starting three of them. He owns a 2-2 record with one complete game and a 4.91 ERA. In 14.2 innings pitched, he has struck out 11 batters.

 

Sophomore catcher Tim Henault (East Greenwich, RI) has played in 24 games, starting 22 of them. He is batting .319 with 29 hits, five doubles, two triples, one home run, 14 walks, 23 runs scored and 16 RBI. Henault owns a .451 slugging percentage and a .402 on-base percentage along with a .993 fielding percentage.

 

Senior infielder Jamie Aldoupolis (Ashland, MA) has played in 17 games, starting 13 of them. He is batting .239 with 11 hits, one triple, one home run, 11 RBI, six runs scored and three walks. Aldoupolis owns a .348 slugging percentage, a .300 on-base percentage and a .827 fielding percentage.

 

Junior infielder/outfielder David Smith (Wakefield, RI) has played in 15 games, starting 14 of them. He is batting .205 with eight hits, seven walks, seven runs scored and three RBI. Smith owns a .205 slugging percentage, a .360 on base percentage and a .900 fielding percentage.

 

Sophomore infielder Chris Martin (Watertown, CT) has played in 14 games, starting eight of them. He is batting .179 with seven hits, one triple, two walks, four RBI and seven runs scored. He owns a .231 slugging percentage, a .250 on base percentage and a 1.000 fielding percentage.

 

Freshman pitcher Brett Warner (Branford, CT) has appeared in three games. He owns a 0-0 record with a 6.75 ERA. In 4.0 innings pitched, he has struck out three batters.

 

Freshman first baseman Jesse Earl (North Providence, RI) has played in six games. He is batting .333 with three hits, one double, one walk, one run scored and two RBI. Earl owns a .444 slugging percentage, a .400 on base percentage and a 1.000 fielding percentage.

 

Freshman infielder Peter Olson (North Providence, RI) has played in 22 games, starting 20 of them. He is batting .311 with 23 hits, one triple, seven doubles, five walks, seven runs scored and eight RBI. Olson owns a .432 slugging percentage, a .350 on base percentage and a .891 fielding percentage.

 

Freshman pitcher Eric Thibault (Somerset, MA) has appeared in eight games, starting four of them. He owns a 2-2 record with a 6.37 ERA and two complete games. In a team-high 35.1 innings pitched, he has struck out 22 batters.

 

Freshman outfielder Robert Doyon (Douglas, MA) has played in 20 games, starting 19 of them. He is batting .286 with 22 hits, one home run, four doubles, five walks, 11 RBI and 15 runs scored. Doyon owns a .416 slugging percentage, a .360 on base percentage and a 1.000 fielding percentage.

 

Freshman pitcher Eric Fama (Wappingers Falls, NY) has appeared in eight games. He owns a 0-2 record with a 7.45 ERA. In 9.2 innings pitched, he has struck out 12 batters.

 

Freshman pitcher Brian Farley (North Providence, RI) has appeared in nine games. He owns a 0-2 record with a 6.39 ERA. In 12.2 innings pitched, he has struck out 12 batters.

 

Freshman pitcher Carlos Hernandez (Providence, RI) has appeared in two games. He owns a 0-0 record with an 18.00 ERA. In 1.0 innings pitched, he has struck out one batter.

 

Freshman catcher Paul Kelley (Hope, RI) has played in three games. He has one walk and one run scored. Kelley owns an on base percentage of .167 and a fielding percentage of 1.000.

 

Freshman outfielder Ryan Bere (Belmont, MA) has played in two games.

 

Junior right fielder Mike Naylor (Warwick, RI) broke his hand after being hit by a pitch while down South, and will be out the remainder of the season. Prior to getting injured, Naylor played in seven games, starting all of them. He batted .318 with seven hits, one double, six runs scored and three RBI. Naylor owned a .364 slugging percentage, a .333 on-base percentage and a 1.000 fielding percentage.
