Rhode Island College Baseball Update #7

(15-19 Overall; 7-7 in the Little East)

Providence, RI--Head Coach Jay Grenier's team is 15-19 overall and 7-7 in the Little East Conference. The Anchormen went 3-4 last week. All of RICís games were played on the road. The Anchormen dropped their first two games of the week, 6-1, to Eastern Connecticut on Monday, May 2 in a make-up game, and a, 4-3, decision to in-state rival Johnson & Wales on Tuesday, May 3.

 
            The Anchormen bounced back on Wednesday, May 4 with a, 8-1, victory over Babson, before splitting a doubleheader (12-13, 10-6) with LEC foe Plymouth State on Friday, May 6. RIC closed out its week on Sunday, May 8 against LEC rival Western Connecticut. The Anchormen dropped the first game of the double-dip, 4-3, in ten innings, but then went on to shut out the Colonials, 4-0, in game two.

 

 In upcoming action, RIC will play in the LEC Tournament to be held at Eastern Connecticut on May 12-15.

 

Senior outfielder Chris Higgins (Swansea, MA) has played in 34 games, starting 33 of them. He is batting a team-high .429 with a team-high 57 hits along with two home runs, 12 doubles, two triples, 26 RBI, 22 runs scored, ten walks and three stolen bases. Higgins owns team-highs with a .473 on-base percentage and a .594 slugging percentage. He also has a .952 fielding percentage. He has been named the LEC Player of the Week once this season.

 

Freshman first baseman Jim Connell (Smithfield, RI) has played in 31 games, starting 29 of them. He is batting .282 with 31 hits, eight doubles, two home runs, eight walks, 15 runs scored and 25 RBI. Connell owns a slugging percentage of .409, an on base percentage of .344 and a .987 fielding percentage. He has been named the Little East Conference Baseball Rookie of the Week once this season.

 

Senior first baseman/pitcher Matt Brannon (Cranston, RI) has played in 34 games, starting all of them. He is batting .341 with 42 hits, six doubles, two triples, one home run, 23 runs scored, 26 RBI and 14 walks. Brannon owns a .447 slugging percentage, a .411 on-base percentage and a .984 fielding percentage. On the mound, Brannon has appeared in seven games, starting five of them. He owns a 2-2 record with a 3.03 ERA. In 35.2 innings pitched, he has struck out 37 batters.

 

 Senior center fielder/pitcher Glenn Dusablon (North Smithfield, RI) has played in 31 games, starting all of them. He is batting .241 with 27 hits, six doubles, one home run, 15 walks, ten RBI and 27 runs scored. Dusablon owns a .321 slugging percentage, a .348 on-base percentage and .989 fielding percentage. On the mound, he has appeared in five games, starting all of them. He owns a 4-0 record with a 2.91 ERA. In 34.0 innings pitched, he has struck out 19 batters.

 

Senior pitcher James Milano (Johnston, RI) has appeared in ten games, starting eight of them. He owns a 1-5 record with a 6.29 ERA. In 44.1 innings pitched, he has struck out 29 batters.

 

Senior third baseman Chris Smaldone (Johnston, RI) has played in 32 games, starting all of them. He is batting .245 with 26 hits, three doubles, seven walks, 13 RBI, 13 runs scored and five stolen bases. Smaldone owns a .274 slugging percentage, a .316 on-base percentage and a .921 fielding percentage.

 

Senior third baseman/designated hitter Brian Trupiano (Franklin, MA) has played in 21 games, starting 18 of them. He is batting .262 with 17 hits, four doubles, ten runs scored, four RBI and five stolen bases. Trupiano owns a .323 slugging percentage and a .284 on-base percentage.

 

Junior pitcher Wade Briggs (Woonsocket, RI) has appeared in nine games, starting seven of them. He has a 2-2 record with one save and has thrown one complete game. He owns a 2.49 ERA. In 47.0 innings pitched, he has 37 strikeouts.

 

Junior pitcher Bruce Taraska (Exeter, RI) has appeared in ten games. He owns a 1-0 record and leads all relievers with a 1.76 ERA. In 15.1 innings pitched, he has struck out 11 batters.

 

Sophomore pitcher Caleb Barber (Mystic, CT) has appeared in six games, starting three of them. He owns a 2-2 record with one complete game and a 4.91 ERA. In 14.2 innings pitched, he has struck out 11 batters.

 

Sophomore catcher Tim Henault (East Greenwich, RI) has played in 31 games, starting 29 of them. He is batting .322 with 39 hits, eight doubles, two triples, two home runs, 17 walks, 29 runs scored and 23 RBI. Henault owns a .471 slugging percentage and a .404 on-base percentage along with a .995 fielding percentage.

 

Senior infielder Jamie Aldoupolis (Ashland, MA) has played in 24 games, starting 20 of them. He is batting .236 with 17 hits, one triple, one home run, 12 RBI, eight runs scored, six walks and two stolen bases. Aldoupolis owns a .306 slugging percentage, a .304 on-base percentage and a .884 fielding percentage.

 

Junior infielder/outfielder David Smith (Wakefield, RI) has played in 15 games, starting 14 of them. He is batting .205 with eight hits, seven walks, seven runs scored and three RBI. Smith owns a .205 slugging percentage, a .360 on base percentage and a .900 fielding percentage.

 

Sophomore infielder Chris Martin (Watertown, CT) has played in 14 games, starting eight of them. He is batting .179 with seven hits, one triple, two walks, four RBI and seven runs scored. He owns a .231 slugging percentage, a .250 on base percentage and a 1.000 fielding percentage.

 

Freshman pitcher Brett Warner (Branford, CT) has appeared in three games. He owns a 0-0 record with a 6.75 ERA. In 4.0 innings pitched, he has struck out three batters.

 

Freshman first baseman Jesse Earl (North Providence, RI) has played in six games. He is batting .333 with three hits, one double, one walk, one run scored and two RBI. Earl owns a .444 slugging percentage, a .400 on base percentage and a 1.000 fielding percentage.

 

Freshman infielder Peter Olson (North Providence, RI) has played in 29 games, starting 27 of them. He is batting .333 with 35 hits, one triple, eight doubles, six walks, 14 runs scored and eight RBI. Olson owns a .429 slugging percentage, a .366 on base percentage and a .857 fielding percentage.

 

Freshman pitcher Eric Thibault (Somerset, MA) has appeared in eight games, starting four of them. He owns a 2-2 record with a 6.37 ERA and two complete games. In a team-high 35.1 innings pitched, he has struck out 22 batters.

 

Freshman outfielder Robert Doyon (Douglas, MA) has played in 27 games, starting 26 of them. He is batting .241 with 26 hits, two home runs, four doubles, seven walks, 12 RBI and 20 runs scored. Doyon owns a .333 slugging percentage, a .317 on base percentage and a .977 fielding percentage.

 

Freshman pitcher Eric Fama (Wappingers Falls, NY) has appeared in ten games. He owns a 0-3 record with a 5.52 ERA. In 14.2 innings pitched, he has struck out 19 batters.

 

Freshman pitcher Brian Farley (North Providence, RI) has appeared in 11 games. He owns a 0-3 record with a 5.28 ERA. In 15.1 innings pitched, he has struck out 13 batters.

 

Freshman pitcher Carlos Hernandez (Providence, RI) has appeared in two games. He owns a 0-0 record with an 18.00 ERA. In 1.0 innings pitched, he has struck out one batter.

 

Freshman catcher Paul Kelley (Hope, RI) has played in three games. He has one walk and one run scored. Kelley owns an on base percentage of .167 and a fielding percentage of 1.000.

 

Freshman outfielder Ryan Bere (Belmont, MA) has played in two games.

 

Freshman pitcher Mike Cookson (Warwick, RI) has appeared in one game.

 

Junior right fielder Mike Naylor (Warwick, RI) broke his hand after being hit by a pitch while down South, and will be out the remainder of the season. Prior to getting injured, Naylor played in seven games, starting all of them. He batted .318 with seven hits, one double, six runs scored and three RBI. Naylor owned a .364 slugging percentage, a .333 on-base percentage and a 1.000 fielding percentage.
