Eric Thibault Named Little East Baseball Rookie of the Week

Providence, RIóRhode Island College freshman pitcher Eric Thibault (Somerset, MA) was named the Little East Conference Baseball Rookie of the Week.

 

Thibault posted a 1-0 record in two games started last week. In 15.0 innings pitched, he gave up just nine hits, while striking out ten batters and earning an ERA of 1.20. In his first outing of the week versus Johnson & Wales, he received a no-decision, going six innings, giving up two earned runs, while striking out six. In his second start against LEC foe Western Connecticut, he pitched a complete game shutout, giving up five hits and two walks, while striking out four Colonials.

 

He is a criminal justice major and a 2004 graduate of Somerset High School.

 

Head Coach Jay Grenier's team is 15-19 overall and 7-7 in the Little East Conference. The Anchormen went 3-4 last week. All of RICís games were played on the road. The Anchormen dropped their first two games of the week, 6-1, to Eastern Connecticut on Monday, May 2 in a make-up game, and a, 4-3, decision to in-state rival Johnson & Wales on Tuesday, May 3. The Anchormen bounced back on Wednesday, May 4 with a, 8-1, victory over Babson, before splitting a doubleheader (12-13, 10-6) with LEC foe Plymouth State on Friday, May 6. RIC closed out its week on Sunday, May 8 against LEC rival Western Connecticut. The Anchormen dropped the first game of the double-dip, 4-3, in ten innings, but then went on to shut out the Colonials, 4-0, in game two.

 In upcoming action, RIC will play in the LEC Tournament to be held at Eastern Connecticut on May 12-15.
