Women’s Basketball Update #4

(3-5 Overall, 0-2 in the Little East Conference)

Providence, RI--Head Coach Spencer Manning’s team is 3-5 overall and 0-2 in the Little East Conference. RIC went 1-2 last week. The Anchorwomen snapped a four-game losing streak with a, 71-57, win over Johnson and Wales on Dec. 7. RIC followed up the win over JWU with a, 66-58, victory over Westfield State on Dec. 9. The Anchorwomen remain winless in the LEC after losing a heart-breaker, 61-59, at Eastern Connecticut on Dec. 11.

 

Junior guard Jamie Angell (Cranston, RI) has played in eight games, starting all of them. She is averaging a team-high 15.5 points, 4.6 assists and 2.4 steals along with 1.4 rebounds per game. Angell scored a game-high 29 points in the loss to Eastern Connecticut on Dec. 11. She has been named to the Little East Conference Women’s Basketball Honor Roll twice this season.

 

Sophomore forward Kari Geisler (Derry, NH) has played in eight games, starting seven of them. She is averaging 11.9 points, 9.0 rebounds and 1.7 steals per game. Geisler had two double-doubles last week, with 13 points and 12 rebounds vs. JWU and a game-high 21 points with 13 boards in the win over Westfield State. For her efforts, she was named the Little East Conference's Player of the Week. She has been named to the Little East Conference Women’s Basketball Weekly Honor Roll once this season.

 

Sophomore forward Brittany Rosen (Derry, NH) has played in eight games, starting seven of them. She is averaging 7.9 points, 9.0 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 2.4 steals per game. Rosen grabbed a career-high 20 rebounds to go along with five steals and 16 points in the win over Westfield State. The 20 boards are tied for the third-most in a game in RIC women’s hoop history.

 

Senior guard Alyson St. Amand (West Warwick, RI) has played in seven games, starting two of them. She is averaging 2.0 points and 1.7 rebounds per game.

 

Junior forward Kristy Nix (East Setauket, NY) has played in seven games, starting four of them. She is averaging 8.1 points, 2.6 rebounds and 2.4 steals per game. She had ten points, five rebounds and three steals in the loss to Eastern Connecticut.

 

Freshman forward Josalee Danieli (New Gloucester, ME) has played in eight games, starting four of them. She is averaging 6.4 points and 5.0 rebounds per game. She had 11 points and six boards in the win over JWU. She had a breakout game in the win over Westfield State with ten points, five boards, two assists and two steals.

 

Freshman guard Sarah Coughlin (North Attleboro, MA) has played in eight games, starting three of them. She is averaging 2.0 assists, 2.6 rebounds, 1.8 steals and 2.9 points per game.

 

Freshman forward Jessica Shiel (Warwick, RI) has played in four games. She is averaging 2.3 points per game.

 

Freshman forward Sherri Heard (Coventry, RI) has played in five games. She is averaging 2.0 points and 0.6 rebounds per game.

 

Freshman guard Marissa VanHaverbeke (Barrington, RI) has played in five games.

 

RIC is off for finals and Christmas. The Anchorwomen will resume the season at the Naismith Invitational, hosted by Springfield College, on Jan. 2-3.
