Rhode Island College Names Wrestling Captains

Providence, RIóRhode Island College seniors Justin Deveau (North Attleboro, MA), Luke Emmons (West Greenwich, RI), Keith Nelson (Rhinebeck, NY) and Dave Paquette (Ledyard, CT) have been named captains of the 2004-05 wrestling team.

 

Deveau, a three-time All-New England wrestler, is ranked fourth in New England at 285 lbs. He is 8-3 at 285 lbs. with 30 points, 12 takedowns, two reversals, one near-fall and two pins. He placed third at 285 lbs. at the RWU Invitational. He is a marketing major and a 2001 graduate of North Attleboro High School.

 

Emmons is currently tied for second in the New England rankings at 141 lbs. He is 8-2 at 141 lbs. with 34 points, 11 takedowns, four reversals, one near-fall and three pins. Emmons placed second at 141 lbs. at the Roger Williams Invitational on Nov. 13 and at the R.I.T. Invitational on Dec. 4. He is a management major and a 2000 graduate of Exeter-West Greenwich High School.

 

Nelson, a two-time All-New England grappler, is ranked fourth in New England at 174 lbs. He is 12-4 at 174 lbs. with 47 points, 23 takedowns, four reversals, five near-falls and two pins. He placed second at the RWU Invitational, third at the Doug Parker Invitational and fifth at the R.I.T. Invitational in the 174 lbs. weight class. He is a telecommunications major and a 2001 graduate of Rhinebeck High School.

 

Paquette is ranked sixth in New England at 157 lbs. He is 10-6 at 157 lbs. with 39 points, 24 takedowns, three reversals, four near-falls and one pin. He placed sixth at 157 lbs. at the Doug Parker Invitational. He is a computer information systems major and a 1999 graduate of Ledyard High School.

 

Head Coach Jay Jonesí team is currently ranked sixth in New England among Div. III institutions and tenth among all institutions (Div. I, II, III). The Anchormen are 1-0 overall, 1-0 against New England College Conference Wrestling Associations (NECCWA) opposition and have yet to face a Pilgrim Wrestling League opponent.

 

RIC earned its first win of the 2004-05 campaign with a, 40-4, victory at Plymouth State on Dec. 9. The Anchormen took nine of ten matches vs. the Panthers.
