Rhode Island Collegeís Kyle Teixeira Earns All-New England Honors

 

Providence, RIóRhode Island College junior forward Kyle Teixeira (Warren, RI) has been named All-New England in menís soccer for the third consecutive year. Teixeira was named Second Team All-New England, an honor he also received as a sophomore in 2003. He was named Fourth Team All-New England as a freshman in 2002.

 

As a junior in 2004, Teixeira was named the Little East Conferenceís Offensive Player of the Year for the second time in his career (2004, 2002). He was also named First Team All-Little East Conference for the third consecutive season. He was selected as RICís team MVP for the second consecutive season as well.

 

He played in 20 games, starting all of them. He had 21 goals and five assists for 47 points on the season. He broke Domenico Petrarcaís í78 27-year old record for career goals when he scored his 21st goal of the season and the 63rd of his career in the Little East Conference Menís Soccer Tournament Semi-Final win over Plymouth State (3-1). Teixeira also has 16 career assists, 142 career points and trails Petrarcaís record for career points (147) by five heading into next fall.

 

He is a physical education/health major and a 2002 graduate of Mt. Hope High School.

 

Head Coach John Melloís team finished the 2004 season with an 11-9-2 overall record and a 4-2-1 (second place) mark in the Little East Conference. RICís second place regular season record in the LEC was the highest finish in the programís history. The Anchormen made it to the Championship Game of the 2004 Little East Conference Menís Soccer Tournament, falling, 3-1, to Keene State. The Anchormen also were selected to participate in the 2004 Eastern College Athlete Conference (ECAC) Menís Soccer Tournament for the second consecutive season. RIC has won 11 games in each of the past three seasons.
