Rhode Island College Wrestling Update #4

(4-0 Overall; 1-0 in the NECCWA; 0-0 in the Pilgrim League)

Providence, RI--Head Coach Jay Jonesí team is currently ranked fifth in New England among Div. III institutions and eighth among all institutions in New England (Div. I, II, III). The Anchormen are 4-0 overall, 1-0 against New England College Conference Wrestling Association (NECCWA) opposition and have yet to face a Pilgrim Wrestling League opponent.

 

RIC returned to action at the Citrus Invitational in Ft. Lauderdale, FL on Dec. 29 and took home seventh place (12 teams) with a team score of 67.5 points. John Carroll University won the invitational with 130.5 points. RIC had five grapplers finish in the top five in their respective weight classes.

 

The Anchormen moved on to the Citrus Duals on Dec. 30 and went a perfect 3-0. RIC defeated Wilmington, 29-16, Case Western, 35-8, and Heidelberg, 27-18, to stay perfect on the season.

 

In upcoming action, RIC will square off against NECCWA foe Wesleyan this evening at 7 p.m.

 

Senior Justin Deveau (North Attleboro, MA) is ranked fourth in New England at 285 lbs. He is 14-4 at 285 lbs. with 56 points, 22 takedowns, four reversals, six near-falls and three pins. Deveau dropped down to compete at 197 lbs. at the Citrus Invitational and took home second place at the weight class. His only loss came in the championship match of the 197 lbs. weight class against the fifth-ranked grappler in the nation. He went 6-1 during competition down South. He previously placed third at 285 lbs. at the RWU Invitational on Nov. 13.

 

Senior Luke Emmons (West Greenwich, RI) is currently tied for second in the New England rankings at 141 lbs. He is 14-4 at 141 lbs. with 54 points, 25 takedowns, ten reversals, four near-falls and three pins. Emmons took home fourth place at 141 lbs. at the Citrus Invitational. He went 6-2 during competition down South. Emmons placed second at 141 lbs. at the Roger Williams Invitational on Nov. 13 and at the R.I.T. Invitational on Dec. 4.

 

Senior Keith Nelson (Rhinebeck, NY) is ranked fourth in New England at 174 lbs. He is 19-6 at 174 lbs. with 75 points, 37 takedowns, five reversals, nine near-falls and three pins. Nelson took home third place at 174 lbs. at the Citrus Invitational. He went 7-2 during competition down South. He placed second at the RWU Invitational on Nov. 13, third at the Doug Parker Invitational on Nov. 20 and fifth at the R.I.T. Invitational on Dec. 4 in the 174 lbs. weight class.

 

Junior Arty Privedenyuk (Springfield, MA) is ranked fifth in New England at 165 lbs. He is 16-7 at 165 lbs. with 70 points, 19 takedowns, 16 reversals, 23 near-falls and five pins. Privedenyuk went 2-1 during competition down South. He placed third at the Roger Williams Invitational on Nov. 13, fourth at the Doug Parker Invitational on Nov. 20 and sixth at the R.I.T. Invitational on Dec. 4 at 165 lbs.

 

Senior Dave Paquette (Ledyard, CT) is ranked fifth in New England at 157 lbs. He is 14-9 at 157 lbs. with 54 points, 37 takedowns, six reversals, four near-falls and one pin. Paquette placed fifth at 157 lbs. at the Citrus Invitational. He went 4-3 during competition down South. He placed sixth at 157 lbs. at the Doug Parker Invitational on Nov. 20.

 

Junior Todd Bloom (Wantagh, NY) is 5-7 at 133 lbs. with 18 points, 11 takedowns, four reversals, five near-falls and one pin. Bloom placed second at 133 lbs. at the Roger Williams Invitational on Nov. 13.

 

Sophomore Olutosin Taylor (Copiague, NY) is ranked sixth in New England at 197 lbs. Taylor is 4-4 at 197 lbs. with 18 points, five takedowns, four reversals and two pins on the season. Taylor went 2-2 during competition down South. He placed sixth at 197 lbs. at the Doug Parker Invitational on Nov. 20.

 

Sophomore Ryan DeSisto (Warwick, RI) placed fifth at 141 lbs. at the R.I.T. Invitational on Dec. 4. He is 7-6 at 141 lbs. with 30 points, 17 takedowns, two reversals, two near-falls and two pins.

 

Junior B.J. Atkinson (Danbury, CT) is 4-4 at 285 lbs. with 18 points, nine takedowns, two near-falls and two pins. He placed fifth at 285 lbs. at the Roger Williams Invitational on Nov. 13.

 

Freshman Kevin Davis (Amston, CT) is 10-8 at 174 lbs. with 44 points, five takedowns, nine reversals, six near-falls and two pins. He went 2-2 during competition down South.

 

Sophomore Ray Hanley (Wantagh, NY) is 7-7 at 125 lbs. with 34 points, nine takedowns, six reversals, five near-falls and four pins.

 

Freshman Brendan Casey (Lowell, MA) is 4-6 at 165 lbs. with 14 points, 14 takedowns, five reversals and three near-falls.

 

Junior Richard Chute (Wrentham, MA) is 6-8 at 141 lbs. with 20 points, 23 takedowns, two reversals and two near-falls. Chute went 4-2 during competition down South.

 

Sophomore Ian Coyne (Amston, CT) is 3-10at 157 lbs. with nine points, six takedowns and one reversal.

 

Freshman Eric Fama (Wappingers Falls, NY) is 4-8 at 149 lbs. with 12 points, eight takedowns, four reversals and two near-falls. Fama went 3-2 during competition down South.

 

Senior Eddy German (Providence, RI) is 0-2 at 125 lbs. with two takedowns.

 

Freshman Damien Hebert (Woonsocket, RI) is 4-10 at 184 lbs. with 15 points, four takedowns, two reversals and two near-falls.

 

Senior Matt Kelly (Carver, MA) is 6-4 at 157 lbs. with 30 points, six takedowns, two reversals, six near-falls and four pins. Kelly went 4-2 during competition with three pins down South.

 

Sophomore Eric Martell (Chepachet, RI) is 5-5 at 184 lbs. with 21 points, four takedowns and two pins.

 

Freshman Mike Roncarati (Plymouth, MA) is 0-2 at 125 lbs.

 

Sophomore Colin Smith (Wading River, NY) is 2-5 at 165 lbs. with seven points, four takedowns, one reversal and three near-falls.

 

Freshman Jeff Smith (Lowell, MA) is 0-2 at 125 lbs. with one takedown.

 

Freshman Andrew Blanchard (Warwick, RI) is 0-2 at 141 lbs.
