Women’s Basketball Update #6

(4-8 Overall, 1-2 in the Little East Conference)

Providence, RI--Head Coach Spencer Manning’s team is 4-8 overall and 1-2 in the Little East Conference. The Anchorwomen went 1-1 last week. RIC dropped their first contest of the week on the road to nationally-ranked Wesleyan, 72-53, on Thursday, Jan. 6. The Anchorwomen returned to The Murray Center on Saturday, Jan. 8, for the first time since December 9, and took a, 73-54, decision over LEC opponent UMass-Boston.

 

Junior guard Jamie Angell (Cranston, RI) has played in 12 games, starting all of them. She is averaging a team-high 14.9 points, 3.8 assists along with 2.0 steals and 1.7 rebounds per game. She has been named to the Little East Conference Women’s Basketball Honor Roll three times this season.

 

Sophomore forward Kari Geisler (Derry, NH) has played in 12 games, starting 11 of them. She is averaging 12.2 points, 9.7 rebounds, 1.3 steals and 0.9 blocks per game. She recorded two double-doubles last week, giving her six on the season. She notched 15 points and 14 rebounds in RIC’s loss to Wesleyan, and scored a team-high 21 points and grabbed 12 rebounds in the Anchorwomen’s win over UMass-Boston. Geisler has been named Little East Conference Player of the Week and to the Little East Conference Women’s Basketball Weekly Honor Roll once this season, respectively.

 

Sophomore forward Brittany Rosen (Derry, NH) has played in 12 games, starting 11 of them. She is averaging 8.6 points, 8.7 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.8 steals per game. Rosen notched her third double-double of the season, scoring a season-high 17 points, while adding a game-high 13 rebounds in RIC’s win over UMass-Boston.

 

Senior guard Alyson St. Amand (West Warwick, RI) has played in 11 games, starting three of them. She is averaging 2.3 points and 1.7 rebounds per game. She dished out a season-high three assists in the Anchorwomen’s win over UMass-Boston.

 

Junior forward Kristy Nix (East Setauket, NY) has played in 11 games, starting eight of them. She is averaging 7.3 points, 2.7 rebounds and a team-high 2.1 steals per game.

 

Freshman forward Josalee Danieli (New Gloucester, ME) has played in 12 games, starting seven of them. She is averaging 6.2 points and 4.8 rebounds per game. She grabbed a career-high nine rebounds and dished out a career-high four assists in RIC’s win over UMass-Boston.

 

Freshman guard Sarah Coughlin (North Attleboro, MA) has played in 12 games, starting three of them. She is averaging 2.9 points, 2.4 rebounds, 2.0 steals and 1.8 assists per game.

 

Freshman forward Jessica Shiel (Warwick, RI) has played in nine games. She is averaging 1.6 points per game.

 

Freshman forward Sherri Heard (Coventry, RI) has played in eight games. She is averaging 2.5 points and 1.9 rebounds per game.

 

Freshman forward Colleen Feeney (Providence, RI) joined the team on Jan. 6. She has played in two games. She is averaging 4.0 points and 3.0 rebounds per game.

 

The Anchorwomen will play at The Murray Center on Tuesday, Jan. 11 at 5:30 p.m. against LEC foe Southern Maine before going on the road for their next two games. RIC will travel to Pine Manor on Thursday, Jan. 13 for a 6 p.m. tilt before visiting LEC opponent Keene State on Saturday, Jan. 15 at 1 p.m.
