SOUTHERN MAINE STAYS PERFECT IN LEC PLAY

            Providence, RI—12th ranked Southern Maine stayed unbeaten in Little East Conference play with a, 61-51, victory over Rhode Island College on Tuesday evening. With the win, USM is now 11-2 overall and 4-0 in the Little East. RIC falls to 4-9 overall and 1-3 in the LEC.

 

Both teams had their share of difficulty handling the ball as they combined for 51 turnovers. RIC led for most of the first half before the Huskies rallied to take a 24-22 lead into halftime. USM pulled away in the second half, outscoring the Anchorwomen 37-29 to earn the win.

 

USM junior forward Megan Myles (Turner, ME) had 14 points with seven boards, four steals, three blocks and two assists to pace the Huskies attack. Sophomore guard Katie Sibley (Boothbay, ME) had 12 points, three assists and three steals, while junior guard Donna Cowing (Weeks Mills, ME) chipped in with 12 points.

 

RIC junior guard Jamie Angell (Cranston, RI) led all scorers with 17 points. Sophomore forward Kari Geisler (Deerfield, NH) added ten points and nine boards.

 

In upcoming action, RIC will play at Pine Manor on Thursday, Jan. 13 and at LEC foe Keene State on Saturday, Jan. 15.
