Women’s Basketball Update #7

(6-9 Overall, 2-3 in the Little East Conference)

Providence, RI--Head Coach Spencer Manning’s team is 6-9 overall and 2-3 in the Little East Conference. The Anchorwomen went 2-1 last week. RIC dropped their first contest of the week at home to nationally-ranked Southern Maine, 61-51, on Tuesday, Jan. 11. The Anchorwomen then went on the road and defeated Pine Manor, 70-42, on Thursday, Jan. 13 before taking a, 59-55, decision over LEC opponent Keene State on Saturday, Jan. 15.

 

Freshman forward Colleen Feeney (Providence, RI) joined the team on Jan. 6. She has played in five games, starting one of them. Feeney recorded career-highs in points and rebounds last week. She dropped 20 points in RIC’s victory over Keene State, and she grabbed nine rebounds in RIC’s victory over Pine Manor. For her efforts, she was named the Little East Conference Women’s Basketball Rookie of the Week. She is averaging 9.0 points and 5.8 rebounds per game.

 

Junior guard Jamie Angell (Cranston, RI) has played in 15 games, starting 13 of them. She is averaging a team-high 14.1 points, 3.7 assists along with 2.0 steals and 1.5 rebounds per game. Angell recorded a team-high 17 points in the, 61-51, loss to Southern Maine. She has been named to the Little East Conference Women’s Basketball Honor Roll three times this season.

 

Sophomore forward Kari Geisler (Derry, NH) has played in 15 games, starting 13 of them. She is averaging 11.6 points, 9.3 rebounds and 1.2 steals per game. She has been named the Little East Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week twice this season. Geisler has been named to the Little East Conference Women’s Basketball Weekly Honor Roll once this season.

 

Sophomore forward Brittany Rosen (Derry, NH) has played in 15 games, starting 13 of them. She is averaging 8.3 points, 8.2 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.6 steals per game.

 

Senior guard Alyson St. Amand (West Warwick, RI) has played in 14 games, starting three of them. She is averaging 1.9 points and 1.5 rebounds per game.

 

Junior forward Kristy Nix (East Setauket, NY) has played in 14 games, starting nine of them. She is averaging 7.1 points, 2.4 rebounds and a team-high 2.5 steals per game.

 

Freshman forward Josalee Danieli (New Gloucester, ME) has played in 15 games, starting nine of them. Danieli tied a career-high, grabbing nine rebounds, in the Anchorwomen’s victory over Pine Manor. She is averaging 5.9 points and 5.3 rebounds per game.

 

Freshman guard Sarah Coughlin (North Attleboro, MA) has played in 15 games, starting four of them. She is averaging 2.5 points, 2.0 rebounds, 2.0 steals and 1.7 assists per game.

 

Freshman forward Jessica Shiel (Warwick, RI) has played in 12 games. Shiel scored a career-high nine points in RIC’s win over Pine Manor. She is averaging 2.1 points per game.

 

Freshman forward Sherri Heard (Coventry, RI) has played in 11 games. Heard recorded career-highs with 13 points and nine rebounds in the Anchorwomen’s victory over Pine Manor. She is averaging 3.0 points and 2.3 rebounds per game.

 

In upcoming action, the Anchorwomen will play two LEC games at home this week. RIC will host UMass-Dartmouth on Tuesday, Jan. 18 at 5:30 p.m. The Anchorwomen will then host Plymouth State on Saturday, Jan. 22 at 1 p.m.
