BRITTO’S TWO FREE THROWS SINK ANCHORMEN

            Providence, RI—After a loose ball foul call, UMass Dartmouth senior forward Joe Britto (New Bedford, MA) sank two free throws with 5.1 seconds left in regulation to lead the Corsairs past Rhode Island College, 73-71, in collegiate men’s basketball action. RIC senior guard Andre Daley’s (Boston, MA) three-point shot attempt came up short as time expired.

 

RIC falls to 10-5 overall and 4-2 in the Little East Conference. UMD evens its record at 7-7 overall and 2-4 in the LEC. Britto exploded for 19 points, nine rebounds and two blocks in just 17 minutes off of the bench to lead UMD. Junior center Charlie Large (Easton, MA) had a breakout game with 24 points and 16 rebounds, both season-highs. Senior forward Chris Lapriore (Grafton, MA) had nine points, nine rebounds, two assists and one steal in 17 minutes off of the bench.

 

RIC sophomore guard Kinsey Durgin (Greenwood, ME) led the Anchormen with 18 points, six rebounds, three assists and three steals.  Freshman forward Benjy Nichols (New Haven, CT) scored a season-high nine points with three boards off of the bench.

 

In upcoming action, RIC will host Plymouth State on Saturday, Jan. 22 at 3 p.m.
