Rhode Island College Menís Basketball Update #7

(11-5 Overall, 5-2 in the Little East Conference)

Providence, RI--Head Coach Jack Perriís team is 11-5 overall and 5-2 in the Little East Conference. The Anchormen split two games last week and have won five of their last six contests. RIC lost in heartbreaking fashion on Tuesday, Jan. 18, by a score of, 73-71, against LEC foe UMass Dartmouth. The Anchormen then got a big come-from-behind victory over LEC power Plymouth State, 93-80, on Saturday, Jan. 22. RIC was down by as much as 18 points in the first half before outscoring PSU in the second half, 58-37, including a 21-7 run to close out the game. RIC is now tied with Plymouth State for first place in the Little East.

 

Sophomore guard Kamari Williams (Springfield, MA) has played in 16 games, starting all of them. He is averaging a team-high 15.1 points, 4.2 assists along with 1.8 steals and 3.8 rebounds per game.

 

Senior guard Andre Daley (Boston, MA) has played in 16 games, starting all of them. He is averaging 14.2 points, 4.3 rebounds, 2.4 assists and a team-high 1.9 steals per game. Daley scored a game-high 30 points to go with six steals in RICís come-from-behind victory over Plymouth State. For his efforts, he was named to the Little East Conference Menís Basketball Weekly Honor Roll.

 

Sophomore guard Kinsey Durgin (Greenwood, ME) has played in 16 games, starting all of them. He is averaging 12.7 points, 4.3 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.4 steals per game. He added a team-high 18 points in the Anchormenís loss to UMass Dartmouth.

 

Senior forward Jason Harris (Bedford, MA) has played in 16 games, starting all of them. He is averaging 9.9 points, 8.5 rebounds and 1.0 steals per game. Harris has been named to the Little East Conference Menís Basketball Honor Roll once this season.

 

Sophomore forward John Weir (Danbury, CT) has played in 16 games, starting all of them. He is averaging 7.6 points, 5.1 rebounds, and a team-high 1.5 blocks per game. Weir recorded his second double-double of the season, dropping in a career-high 18 points while grabbing ten rebounds in RICís win over Plymouth State.

 

Freshman guard Davon Yarbrough (New Haven, CT) has played in 16 games. He is averaging 7.7 points and 2.7 rebounds per game. He has been named the Little East Conference Rookie of the Week twice this season. He has been named to the Little East Conference Menís Basketball Honor Roll once this season.

 

Junior guard Kevin Payette (Woonsocket, RI) has played in 16 games. He is averaging 5.3 points and 1.9 rebounds per game. He scored a season-high 16 points in RICís win over Plymouth State.

 

Junior guard Jared Starnino (Providence, RI) has played in 14 games. He is averaging 3.4 points and 2.9 rebounds per game.

 

Sophomore guard Amde Tegbaru (Stockholm, Sweden) has played in nine games. He is averaging 1.0 point and 0.6 rebounds per game. Tegbaru recorded a season-high five points in RICís loss to UMass Dartmouth.

 

Sophomore forward Anthony Pierlioni (Plainville, CT) has played in 15 games. He is averaging 2.6 points and 2.7 rebounds per game.

 

Freshman guard Benjy Nichols (New Haven, CT) has played in 15 games. He is averaging 3.1 points and 1.6 rebounds per game. Nichols scored a career-high nine points in the loss to UMass Dartmouth.

 

Junior forward Brendan Mullen (Fairhaven, MA) has played in seven games. He is averaging 0.4 points and 1.1 rebounds per game.

 

Freshman guard Justin Lopez (New Haven, CT) has played in two games.

 

Freshman guard Ondinis Almanzar (New York, NY) has played in three games. He is averaging 1.0 points and 1.0 rebound per game.

 

In upcoming action, the Anchormen will play two LEC games. RIC will travel to Western Connecticut on Tuesday, Jan. 25 at 7:30 p.m. The Anchormen will then host Eastern Connecticut on Saturday, Jan. 29 at 3 p.m.
