Rhode Island College Menís Basketball Update #11

(17-7 Overall, 10-4 in the Little East Conference)

2005 Little East Conference Regular Season Co-Champions

Providence, RI--Head Coach Jack Perriís team closed out the 2004-05 regular season with a 17-7 overall record and a 10-4 mark in the Little East Conference. In action last week, the Anchormen won both of their home games against LEC competition. The Anchormen defeated Western Connecticut, 70-69, on Tuesday, Feb. 15. RIC then went on to defeat Keene State, 79-70, in an overtime decision, on Saturday, Feb. 19.

 

With the victories, RIC captured a share of the Little East Conference regular season title with Western Connecticut, which also finished with a 10-4 mark in league play. This is the first time in the programís history that the Anchormen have finished the regular season atop the Little East standings. Due to tie-breakers, RIC is the second seed in the upcoming LEC Menís Basketball Tournament. The Anchormen will host seventh-seeded Southern Maine in a first round game on Tuesday, Feb. 22 at 7:30 p.m. at The Murray Center.

 

Sophomore guard Kamari Williams (Springfield, MA) has played in 24 games, starting all of them. He is averaging a team-high 16.1 points and 4.1 assists along with 1.5 steals and 4.0 rebounds per game. Williams led the Anchormen in scoring in both wins last week, dropping in game-highs of 25 and 19 points, respectively. He has been named to the Little East Conference Menís Basketball Weekly Honor Roll three times this season.

 

Senior guard Andre Daley (Boston, MA) has played in 24 games, starting all of them. He is averaging 13.9 points, 4.0 rebounds, 2.2 assists and a team-high 1.7 steals per game. Daley chipped in with 19 points in RICís overtime win over Keene State. He has been named to the Little East Conference Menís Basketball Weekly Honor Roll four times this season.

 

Sophomore guard Kinsey Durgin (Greenwood, ME) has played in 24 games, starting all of them. He is averaging 11.6 points, 4.5 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.2 steals per game. Durgin helped pace the offensive attack against Western Connecticut, dropping 14 points in the, 70-69, victory. He scored the game-tying basket with 0.2 seconds left in regulation, was fouled, and hit the game-winning free throw in the win over the Colonials. He has been named to the Little East Conference Menís Basketball Weekly Honor Roll once this season.

 

Senior forward Jason Harris (Bedford, MA) has played in 24 games, starting 23 of them. He is averaging 8.6 points and a team-high 7.6 rebounds per game. He chipped in with 9 points and ten rebounds in RICís overtime victory over Keene State. Harris has been named to the Little East Conference Menís Basketball Honor Roll once this season.

 

Sophomore forward John Weir (Danbury, CT) has played in 24 games, starting 20 of them. He is averaging 6.6 points, 4.5 rebounds, and a team-high 1.2 blocks per game.

 

Freshman guard Davon Yarbrough (New Haven, CT) has played in 24 games. He is averaging 8.6 points and 3.1 rebounds per game. Yarbrough dropped in nine points and grabbed seven rebounds in RICís overtime win over Keene State. He has been named the Little East Conference Rookie of the Week twice this season. He has been named to the Little East Conference Menís Basketball Honor Roll once this season.

 

Junior guard Kevin Payette (Woonsocket, RI) has played in 24 games, starting four of them. He is averaging 7.5 points and 3.1 rebounds per game. He averaged 13.0 ppg in RICís two victories last week.

 

Junior guard Jared Starnino (Providence, RI) has played in 22 games, starting one of them. He is averaging 2.7 points and 2.9 rebounds per game.

 

Sophomore guard Amde Tegbaru (Stockholm, Sweden) has played in 16 games. He is averaging 1.2 points and 0.6 rebounds per game.

 

Sophomore forward Anthony Pierlioni (Plainville, CT) has played in 21 games. He is averaging 2.4 points and 2.7 rebounds per game.

 

Freshman guard Benjy Nichols (New Haven, CT) has played in 23 games. He is averaging 2.5 points and 1.5 rebounds per game.

 

Junior forward Brendan Mullen (Fairhaven, MA) has played in 12 games. He is averaging 0.8 points and 1.5 rebounds per game.

 

Freshman guard Justin Lopez (New Haven, CT) has played in five games. He is averaging 0.8 points and 0.2 rebounds per game.

 

Freshman guard Ondinis Almanzar (New York, NY) has played in six games. He is averaging 2.8 points and 0.7 rebounds per game.
