RIC Menís Basketball Selected For ECAC Tournament
Anchormen Host Lasell on Wednesday Night

 

(18-8 Overall, 10-4 in the Little East Conference)

Providence, RI--Head Coach Jack Perriís team has been selected to compete in the upcoming Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Div. III New England Menís Basketball Tournament. RIC is the fourth seed and will host fifth-seeded Lasell College in first round action on Wednesday, Mar. 2 at 7 p.m. The Championship Round will be played on Friday and Saturday, Mar. 4-5. This is the first ECAC Tournament bid the menís basketball team has garnered since 1997.

 

ECAC Div. III New England Menís Basketball Tournament seeds: 1. Colby Sawyer 2. Plymouth State 3. Wheaton 4. Rhode Island College 5. Lasell 6. Emerson 7. Western New England 8. Keene State.

 

The team is 18-8 overall and was 10-4 in the Little East Conference during the regular season. RICís 18 wins are the most since the 1995-96 squad also won 18 contests.

 

In the Little East Conference Menís Basketball Tournament, the second-seeded Anchormen defeated seventh-seeded Southern Maine at home, 85-65, in the first round. RIC lost in the Semi-Finals of the Tournament to third-seeded Plymouth State, 72-69. The game was hosted by top-seeded Western Connecticut, who also captured the LEC Tournament Title with a double-overtime, 135-130, win over Plymouth State in the Championship Game.

 

RIC captured a share of the Little East Conference regular season title with Western Connecticut, which also finished with a 10-4 mark in league play. This was the first time in the programís history that the Anchormen have finished the regular season atop the Little East standings. Due to tie-breakers, RIC was the second seed in the LEC Menís Basketball Tournament.

 

Senior forward Jason Harris (Bedford, MA) has played in 26 games, starting 25 of them. He is averaging 9.0 points and a team-high 7.6 rebounds per game. He averaged 13.0 ppg and 10.0 rpg in the LEC Tournament. He had 18 points and ten rebounds, recording his sixth double-double of the season, in the semi-final loss to Plymouth State. Harris has been named to the Little East Conference Menís Basketball Honor Roll once this season.

 

Junior guard Kevin Payette (Woonsocket, RI) has played in 26 games, starting six of them. He is averaging 8.2 points and 3.4 rebounds per game. He averaged 16.0 ppg and 7.0 rpg in RICís two LEC Tournament games last week. Payette 17 points and five boards in the semi-final loss to Plymouth State.

 

Sophomore guard Kamari Williams (Springfield, MA) has played in 26 games, starting all of them. He is averaging a team-high 15.7 points and 4.0 assists along with 1.6 steals and 4.0 rebounds per game. He has been named to the Little East Conference Menís Basketball Weekly Honor Roll three times this season.

 

Senior guard Andre Daley (Boston, MA) has played in 26 games, starting all of them. He is averaging 13.7 points, 4.0 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.6 steals per game. Daley tied a game-high with 16 points in RICís first-round LEC Tournament win over Southern Maine. He has been named to the Little East Conference Menís Basketball Weekly Honor Roll four times this season.

 

Sophomore guard Kinsey Durgin (Greenwood, ME) has played in 26 games, starting all of them. He is averaging 11.3 points, 4.3 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 1.1 steals per game. He has been named to the Little East Conference Menís Basketball Weekly Honor Roll once this season.

 

Freshman guard Davon Yarbrough (New Haven, CT) has played in 26 games. He is averaging 9.0 points and 3.3 rebounds per game. Yarbrough tied a team-high, dropping in 16 points in RICís first-round LEC Tournament victory over Southern Maine. He has been named the Little East Conference Rookie of the Week twice this season. He has been named to the Little East Conference Menís Basketball Honor Roll once this season.

 

Sophomore forward John Weir (Danbury, CT) has played in 26 games, starting 20 of them. He is averaging 6.2 points, 4.3 rebounds, and a team-high 1.2 blocks per game.

 

Junior guard Jared Starnino (Providence, RI) has played in 24 games, starting one of them. He is averaging 2.7 points and 2.8 rebounds per game.

 

Sophomore guard Amde Tegbaru (Stockholm, Sweden) has played in 18 games. He is averaging 1.2 points and 0.6 rebounds per game.

 

Sophomore forward Anthony Pierlioni (Plainville, CT) has played in 22 games. He is averaging 2.3 points and 2.6 rebounds per game.

 

Freshman guard Benjy Nichols (New Haven, CT) has played in 25 games. He is averaging 2.3 points and 1.4 rebounds per game.

 

Junior forward Brendan Mullen (Fairhaven, MA) has played in 13 games. He is averaging 0.7 points and 1.4 rebounds per game.

 

Freshman guard Justin Lopez (New Haven, CT) has played in six games. He is averaging 0.7 points and 0.2 rebounds per game.

 

Freshman guard Ondinis Almanzar (New York, NY) has played in seven games. He is averaging 2.4 points and 0.6 rebounds per game.
