Anchormen Will Face #1 Colby-Sawyer in Semi-Finals

            Providence, RI—Fourth—seeded Rhode Island College defeated fifth-seeded Lasell, 83-66, in first round action of the 2005 ECAC New England Men’s Basketball Tournament. The Anchormen, who led by as much as 30 points during the game, will face top-seeded Colby-Sawyer in the Semi-Finals on Friday evening.

 

RIC junior guard Kevin Payette (Woonsocket, RI) scored a team-high 18 points and grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds to go along with six assists and five steals. Payette’s 14 boards were a career-high and he tied career-high marks in points and assists. Senior guard Andre Daley (Boston, MA) had 13 points, five rebounds, five steals and three assists. Sophomore guard Kamari Williams (Springfield, MA) had 11 points and four assists. Sophomore guard Amde Tegbaru (Stockholm, Sweden) had 12 points and six boards in 18 minutes off the bench. 11 Anchormen scored at least one point in the win.

 

Lasell senior forward Demetrius DeJesus (Bronx, NY) scored a game-high 24 points to go along with nine boards, four assists, four steals and two blocks. Senior guard Greg Walker (Lauderhill, FL) had 13 points and six boards.

 

RIC improves to 19-8 on the season. The Anchormen’s 19 wins are the most in the season since the 1988-89 club won 20. Lasell ends its season with a 19-10 record.
