2004-05 Women’s Gymnastics Season Summary

(1-15 Overall; 1-10 in the ECAC)

Providence, RI—Head Coach Bob Nannig's team finished the 2004-05 season with a 1-15 overall record and a 1-10 mark against ECAC Div. III competition. The team placed seventh (eight teams) at the ECAC Div. III Championships with a score of 176.600.

 

Senior co-captain Caren Normandin (Fall River, MA) closes out her four-year as an Anchorwoman holding RIC records on beam and floor. Her school-record scores of 9.550 on beam and 9.725 were set during her junior year in 2003-04. Normandin qualified for the National Collegiate Gymnastics Association (NCGA) Championships three times during her career.

 

As a senior in 2004-05, she was the team leader on vault, beam and floor and was named the team MVP. She averaged scores of 9.085 on vault, 7.600 on bars, 9.153 on beam, 9.223 on floor and 34.800 in the all-around. She posted a season-high score of 9.300 vs. M.I.T. She recorded a season high of 8.000 on bars at the M.I.T. quad-meet on Jan. 15. She recorded a season-high score of 9.400 on beam vs. Bridgeport. Normandin posted a season-high mark of 9.550 on floor vs. Southern Connecticut on Feb. 27. Her top all-around score was 35.525 set at the season-opening M.I.T. quad.

 

As a junior in 2003-04, Normandin was the club's lone qualifier to the 2004 NCGA Championships. Normandin was the beam and floor specialist from the East Region. It was her third consecutive trip to the NCGAs. She tied for 21st place on beam with a score of 9.350. She tied for 30th place on floor with a new school record mark of 9.725. For the season, Normandin averaged a score of 9.272 on vault, 8.613 on bars, 9.388 on beam, 9.358 on floor and 36.591 in the all-around. Normandin led the team on every event this winter. She posted season-high marks of 9.375 on vault vs. Southern Connecticut, 8.950 on bars at the Ithaca Invitational, 9.550 on beam at the Ithaca Invitational, 9.725 on floor at the NCGA Championships and 37.075 in the all-around at the ECAC Championships. Her high marks on beam and floor were new school records for those events.

 

As a sophomore is 2002-03, she qualified in the all-around for the NCGA Championships. She placed 24th on vault with a score of 8.975, 54th on bars with a mark of 7.225, 16th on beam with a mark of 9.100, 40th on floor with a mark of 9.325 and 15th in the all-around with a mark of 34.625. For the season, she averaged team-high marks on vault and beam with marks of 9.138 and 9.210, respectively. She also averaged 8.578 on bars, 9.095 on floor and 36.020 in the all-around. Her season-high marks were as follows: 9.325 on vault vs. Southern Connecticut; 9.325 on bars, 9.475 on beam and 36.850 in the all-around at the ECAC Championships; 9.400 on floor vs. MIT. Her 9.475 score on beam at the ECACs tied the highest mark in RIC history at the time on that event.

 

As a freshman in 2001-02, was named the team’s Most Valuable Player. She led the team on vault and in the all-around on the season. She competed as a vault specialist at the NCGA Championships where she placed 34th with a score of 8.975. She averaged scores of 9.002 on vault, 8.435 on bars, 9.025 on beam, 8.975 on floor and 35.440 in the all-around on the season. Her season-high marks were as follows: 9.325 on vault and 36.625 in the all-around at the ECAC Championships; 9.400 on floor vs. MIT/Bridgeport and at the ECAC Championships; 9.100 on bars vs. SUNY-Brockport on Feb. 2; 9.400 on beam at the Wilson Invitational.

 

She is an elementary education major with a concentration in special education, and a 2001 graduate of Durfee High School.

 

Senior co-captain Michaela Hogan (Warwick, RI) was the team leader on bars this season. She averaged scores of 9.013 on vault, 8.357 on bars and 8.700 on floor. She posted season-high marks of 9.125 on vault at the SUNY-Brockport meet on Jan. 22 and at the Bridgeport meet on Feb. 13. She posted a season-high mark of 8.950 on bars at the Bridgeport meet on Feb. 13. Hogan posted a season-high mark of 9.250 on floor at the M.I.T. meet on Feb. 19.

 

As a junior in 2003-04, after redshirting in 2002-03, she averaged scores of 8.993 on vault, 8.584 on bars and 8.538 on floor. She posted season-high marks of 9.300 on vault, 9.050 on bars and 8.725 on floor.

 

As a sophomore in 2001-02, Hogan injured her knee while competing on beam at the ECAC Championships and was lost for the remainder of the season. Hogan was averaging scores of 8.243 on vault, 8.014 on bars, 7.517 on beam, 8.383 on floor and 32.650 in the all-around on the season. Her season-high marks were as follows: 8.650 on vault at the Brockport Invitational; 8.750 on bars and 8.700 on floor vs. MIT/Bridgeport; 8.150 on beam at the Ithaca Invitational; 33.400 in the all-around vs. Springfield/Southern Connecticut.

 

As a freshman in 2000-01, Hogan averaged 8.317 on vault, 7.635 on bars and 8.325 on floor. She posted season-high marks of 8.500 on vault, 8.700 on bars and 8.475 on floor.

 

She is a biology major and a 2000 graduate of Toll Gate High School.

 

Junior Cristy Pforr (Pembroke, MA) averaged scores of 8.519 on vault, 8.600 on beam and 8.775 on floor. She posted a season-high mark of 8.650 on vault at the SUNY Brockport meet on Jan. 22. She posted a season-high mark of 9.250 on beam at the M.I.T. meet on Feb. 19. Pforr posted a season-high mark of 9.175 on floor at the M.I.T. quad meet on Jan. 15.

 

Sophomore Melissa Jones (Cranston, RI) averaged scores of 8.991 on vault, 7.733 on bars, 9.100 on beam, 8.870 on floor and 34.050 in the all-around. She posted season-high marks of 9.150 on vault and 8.500 on bars at the M.I.T. meet on Feb. 19. She posted season-high marks of 9.100 on beam and 34.050 in the all-around at the SUNY-Brockport meet on Jan. 22. Jones’ top floor mark of the season was 9.250 at the West Chester Tri on Mar. 12.

 

Sophomore Megan Joseph (Hope, RI) averaged scores of 8.880 on vault, 7.763on bars, 8.414 on beam, 9.075 on floor and 34.275 in the all-around. She posted season-high marks of 9.075 on vault vs. M.I.T. on Feb. 19. Her score of 9.400 on beam and 34.700 in the all-around vs. Springfield on Mar. 6 were season-highs. Joseph posted a season-high score of 8.200 on bars vs. Southern Connecticut on Feb. 27. She posted a season-high mark of 9.425 on floor at the M.I.T. quad meet on Jan. 15.

 

Sophomore Kristina Lemanis (Smithtown, NY) averaged scores of 8.209 on bars and 8.625 on beam. Lemanis posted season-high marks of 8.725 on bars at the West Chester tri-meet on March 12 and 8.950 on beam at the M.I.T. meet on Feb. 19.

 

Sophomore Cassie O’Blenis (Warren, RI) averaged scores of 8.800 on vault, 6.200 on bars, 8.850 on beam and 8.881 on floor. She posted season-high marks of 9.025 on vault and 8.850 on beam at the SUNY-Brockport meet on Jan. 22. She posted a season-high mark of 6.250 on bars at the URI meet on Feb. 5. She recorded a season-high mark of 9.225 on floor at the ECAC Championships on Mar. 19.

 

Sophomore Hannah Scott (Deep River, CT) averaged scores of 8.710 on vault, 8.269 on bars, 8.533 on beam, 9.054 on floor and 34.670 in the all-around. She posted a season-high mark of 8.950 on vault at the ECAC Championships on Mar. 19. She recorded season-high scores of 9.000 on bars, 9.350 on floor and 35.775 in the all-around vs. Southern Connecticut on Feb. 27. She posted a season-high score of 9.200 on beam vs. Bridgeport on Feb. 12.

 

Sophomore Courtney Sylvia (Seekonk, MA) was a reserve on the team.

 

Sophomore Danielle Soucy (Gloucester, MA) averaged scores of 8.766 on vault and 8.178 on bars. Soucy recorded a season-high score of 9.100 on vault vs. Southern Connecticut on Feb. 27. She posted a season-high mark of 9.000 on bars at the West Chester meet on Feb. 12.

 

Freshman Melissa Demirjian (Warwick, RI) averaged scores of 8.061 on bars, 8.267 on beam and 8.725 on floor. She recorded a season-high mark of 8.750 on bars against at the West Chester tri-meet on Mar. 12. She posted a season-high mark of 8.700 on beam at the URI meet on Feb. 5. Demirjian posted a season-high mark of 9.200 on floor at the ECAC Championships on Mar. 19.

 

Freshman Kaitlyn Kelleher (Plymouth, MA) was a reserve on the team.

 

Freshman Caitlyn Owens (Carmel, NY) averaged scores of 8.095 on bars, 8.760 on beam and 8.794 on floor. She posted a season-high mark of 8.750 on bars vs. Springfield on Mar. 5. Owens posted a season-high score of 9.400 on beam at the SUNY-Brockport meet on Jan. 29. She tied a season-high with a score of 9.000 on floor vs. Southern Connecticut on Feb. 27.

 

Freshman Nicole Tomaselli (Cranston, RI) averaged a score of 7.900 on vault. She recorded a season-high score of 7.950 on vault vs. West Chester on Mar. 12.
