CARDINAL RESUCES RIC FROM COAST GUARD

Providence, RI—Sophomore forward Jessica Cardinal (Harrisville, RI) scored the game’s only goal in Rhode Island College’s, 1-0, win over Coast Guard on Friday afternoon. RIC improves to 3-0, equaling the best start in a season for the Anchorwomen since the 2000 campaign. Coast Guard falls to 1-2 on the season.

RIC sophomore Erika Haaland (North Dartmouth, MA) broke in with Cardinal in the 25th minute of play. Haaland’s crossing pass was cut off by Bears’ sophomore goalkeeper Torie Lusardi (Holland, PA), but the ball deflected to Cardinal who shot the ball into the open net.

The Anchorwomen had numerous scoring opportunities on the day, outshooting the Bears, 25-6. Lusardi made several key saves to keep her team in the game as she stopped 12 shots.

RIC freshman goalkeeper Krissie Pyzynski (Bristol, CT) made three saves to improve her record to 3-0 on the season.

In upcoming action, RIC will host Johnson & Wales University on Tuesday, Sept. 13 at 3:30 p.m. Coast Guard will play at Salve Regina on Thursday, Sept. 15 at 4 p.m.
