ANCHORWOMEN DOWN WESLEYAN, 3-1

Providence, RIóRhode Island College defeated Wesleyan University, 3-1, in a closely contested match on Tuesday evening. Each game went down to the wire, starting with RICís game one, 30-28 victory.  The Cardinals came back and won game two, 30-26. The Anchorwomen then won games three and four, 30-27 and 30-28.

 

RIC senior outside hitter Kristy Nix (East Setauket, NY) was an offensive and defensive force with 22 kills and ten digs. Sophomore setter Jeanne Rosa (Milford, CT) had 14 assists and 13 digs. Sophomore setter Amy Souza (Tiverton, RI) had 22 assists and seven digs. Senior libero Stephanie Wojciechowski (North Kingstown, RI) had 15 digs. Junior middle hitter Erin Miga (Cranston, RI) had six kills, five service aces and three blocks.

 

The Cardinals had three players reach double figures in kills with freshman outside hitter Lisa Drennan (Ann Arbor, MI), senior middle hitter Erin Reding (Darien, CT) and sophomore outside hitter Jettie Wood (Albuquerque, NM) logging 20, 11 and ten, respectively. Sophomore setter Rebecca Rodger (Long Beach, NY) notched a game-high 43 assists.

 

In upcoming action, RIC will compete at the Bridgewater State Invitational on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 23 & 24.
