HAALAND’S GOAL WINS IT FOR THE ANCHORWOMEN

Providence, RI—Rhode Island College junior forward Erika Haaland (North Dartmouth, MA) headed in a corner kick from sophomore midfielder Krista MacKinnon (Exeter, RI) in the 70th minute to score the game-winning goal in a 2-1 victory for the Anchorwomen over Saint Joseph’s.

RIC junior midfielder Caitlin Gavin (Portsmouth, RI) had given RIC the early lead, scoring on a long kick that went over the head of St. Joseph’s freshman goalkeeper Lindsay King (East Bridgewater, MA) in the 11th minute. The Anchorwomen held the lead until the 48th minute when Monks’ senior forward Danielle McLaughlin (Skowhegan, ME) tied the game up on a pass from sophomore defender Jillian Leger (Westminster, MA).

The victory was the third straight for the Anchorwomen, who outshot SJC 22-5. Freshman goalkeeper Krissie Pyzynski (Bristol, CT) made one save to improve her record to 6-2 on the season. King made ten stops in a losing effort.

In upcoming action, RIC will host Framingham State on Wednesday, Sept. 28 at 4 p.m.
