UMASS BOSTON WOMEN’S SOCCER EDGED BY RHODE ISLAND COLLEGE, 1-0

BOSTON, MA – Sophomore midfielder Michaela Bileau netted the only goal of the day to lead the Rhode Island College women’s soccer team over host University of Massachusetts Boston, 1-0, in a Little East Conference match this afternoon at the Clark Athletic Center on the campus of UMass Boston.  The Beacons fall to 1-5-1 overall and 0-2-0 in the LEC, while the Anchorwomen improve to 5-2-0 and 1-1-0.

Krista MacKinnon crossed to Gina Calenda, who then crossed to Bileau, who was camped on the right side of the net, for a shot into the left corner that found the back of the net for the lone score at 23:56 of the first half.

UMass Boston junior keeper Denise B. Ridge (Milton, MA) held Rhode Island College scoreless for the final 66:04 of the match, while stopping 10 shots in the contest.  Krissie Pyzynski earned the shutout victory for the Anchorwomen, while recording four saves, as RIC held a 32-6 shot advantage.

The Beacons hold a conference opponent scoreless for a half for the first time since blanking Plymouth State University in the first half of a match played on September 28, 2002.

UMass Boston will be in action again on Thursday, September 29 when it hosts Rivier College at 3:30 p.m., while Rhode Island College takes on Saint Joseph’s College (ME) tomorrow in Providence at 3:00 p.m.
